Hey people! I'm new here so, hello.. I was shanghaied here by dnny.

Anyway's, I do a bit of dumpster diving, and I found a video color corrector/whatever kind of thing. It wasen't working, and I can't be bothered to fix it. So I gutted the bastard.. Here's a list of IC's that i figured I could use for something "music" related.. BTW, sorry about the Caps Lock, but I Copy'n pasted..
I've already made a NAND Synth from the TC74HC00P, but it dosen't sound very good.. Anyway's I'm not asking to be spoon fed, errhh, oh wait I am.. I hope someone will bother to help me out.. I know your supposed to find what you want to build, and then get the supplies.. Anyways can anybody give me some hints to what to do with all these suckers..?

TC74HC00P - QUAD 2-INPUT NAND GATE
TC74HC02P - QUAD 2-INPUT NOR GATE
TC74HC08P - QUAD 2-INPUT AND GATE
TC74HC11P - TRIPLE 3-INPUT AND GATE ?
TC74HC20P - DUAL 4 - INPUT NAND GATE
TC74HC174P - HEX D TYPE FLIP FLOP WITH CLEAR
TC74HC193P - SYNCHRONOUS UP/DOWN BINARY COUNTER
TC4040BP - 12 STAGE RIPPLE-CARRY BINARY COUNTER/DIVIDERS
TL082CP - Dual JFET-Input General-Purpose Operational Amplifier

Hi Silas

welcome welcome welcome welcome

74XXXX chips don't often appear in analogue synth circuits, so are probably not much use (I have 100s....1000s?, that I have pulled from various junk, they never seem to get used).
you could look at the Lunetta forum for some ideas, but you will notice that CMOS 4XXXchips are better for Lunetta use.

The 4040 can be used as a clock divider, of course!

TL082 - always useful!

cheers

I've been talking to him recently over e-mail.. I have no idea if he's safe though. He seems like a evil crazed person if dosen't get his DIY adrenaline kick.. Very Happy

I have to disagree. The advantage of 4xxx is that it can operate at a higher supply voltage than HC, but if 5volts is enough, then HC is fine. If I ever get around to building Lunetta circuits, I'll make a 5volt system so I can freely mix CD4xxx, 74HC and even 74LS, if I have to.

The '193 would be good for a forward/reverse sequencer. I don't know off-hand of any designs, but there might be one somewhere.

guess I was referring to this thread, as to advantages of CMOS -
http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-23876.html

Personally I also intend to try a 74XXX Lunetta(....one day), as i have so many 74 chips rusting away, a pile of njm2069s (5V korg VCF/VCA chips) and plenty of 5V switching PSUs, so amps are no problem.

You can build digital circuits with them. When I was in college I designed and built my own 16 bit CPU with about 130 7400 series chips. It seems like you're going about things in the wrong order though. First you have to have a need for something and then see if the chips can be applied to that need, not the other way around.

But what when the need would be to use the chips ...

The kalimba theme in the other DIY thread made me think, one could glue the chips to some resonator & play the pins - maybe extended by wires soldered on to them | use contact microphones ... micro contact phones | have the sound processed by the chips themselves.
