I'm thinking about buying an Andromeda.

I love the pads, strings and other samples I've found on the net but how useful would the Andromeda be for Trance music ? Can it recreate a supersaw ?

thanks.

I make a lot of trance music and I own an A6. I could break it down for you and fluff it up, but I will just say one thing.
Forget the Virus. This is the end of the road.

The Virus Ti has some nice sounds, although sounding very digital compared to the Andromeda. I would consider a TI but I have read that it has serious issues/bugs with polyphony and clicks.

Sure. Attached is an example of a trance type sound I created with the Andromeda and a Lexicon MPX-1 reverb unit. (If people want the sysex to this, I can post this as well.) Trance isn't my normal genre, so if people have better examples, post em. Smile

Basically the unison detune sounds will get you where you want. The above sound is 8-voice unison detune, two oscillators, using a combination of saw and PWMed square. I tied the filter to the ribbon control.

I do not like the built-in reverb (the Wedge) for the long-decay type reverb typical in trance, but other than that the Andromeda should work quite well.

I own both an Andromeda and a Virus TI. Of course I never have time to use either of them. Sad

Naturally the Andromeda has a warmer thicker sound but may require more programming to get the sound you're after...but that may be a good thing.

The Virus is a nice sounding instrument and will get you up and running quicker because it has a multitude of trance-like patches built in. It's not as thick sounding as analog though...especially with effects turned off. I find that my analog gear tends to overpower it in a mix.

In the end it depends on what you're after...an endlessly complex analog polysynth or instant gratification.
