I'm hoping someone could help me out with this. I'm trying to create a counter that counts events. When the counted events reaches 3/4/5/6/whatever before the timer runs out another event is triggered.

Can anyone help? Or am I thinking about this the wrong way... is there another way to achieve what I want without using a counter mechanism?

Ok so I've built one with a sequencer... Is there a cheaper way that anyone knows of?

It counts 3 events. If there are 3 events in the time denoted in the delay then the second event is triggered. I'm not sure if it works correctly though, as I'm pretty sure the delay passes all random pulses, just delayed, instead of just passing the first pulse of the group of 3...

Effective and cheap solution.

My solution is more expensive, but lets you select the counter limit with a numerical control rather than having to set gates in the sequencer. You could even dynamically modulate it.
It also lets you use the counting variable for whatever purpose you might want.

Thanks Tim, very nice. It took me a little while to figure it out Wink It hadn't occured to me to use a mixer in a feedback loop... I'll be using yours I think, sure it uses slightly more dsp/memory, but at least it works exactly as it should.

Glad it's useful.

It's based on a counter circuit I designed some time ago. I even built expo-tracking sawtooth oscillators with it once (which can be found here: http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-6966.html)

Hi,
This is an awesome patch. Unfortunately I'm not so bright with the workings of these patches. I want to count logic "clicks" over a time period of say 100ms. Where do I insert the bus that my logic signals are flowing on so this doo-hickey will count them? How do I start (yes I pushed the "start" button but there is clearly more to it)? how do I specify the time frame? And most importantly where does the resulting count spit out of? Is it in the form of an amplitude value or a frequency value (amplitude would be most helpful)?

Alternatively, does anyone know how to convert a frequency value into an amplitude value, i.e. "clicks per second" to voltage. I guess that would be period to amplitude....anyway, is it possible?

Try the Zero Crossing Counter or the Pitch Track modules (on the Note tab)
