Hey Jan,
What's up with the width/resizing of that picture towards the top of the page? Is it because it's imbedded? Can we fix it, or does LetterBeacon have to? (Not have to, I mean "can") _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

I'm so glad you got it working LetterBeacon.
Don't ever be worried about asking questions and learning the basics.
It turned out to be just like I said a few posts ago, "something which, as a new builder, you misunderstood, and Jan and I had taken for granted."
The connections on a 6.5mm socket!
This is actually really great, as it demonstrates how the "hard" bit can easily cloud the "easy" bit. Which is a very important lesson in troubleshooting. I'm very glad you got the chance to learn it early on.
Satisfying knowing that you got to the bottom of it hey? |
Definitely! I learnt so much building this project - not just how to use a stripboard (as I'd never done that before), but also how to troubleshoot, how to use a multimeter, how easy it is to overlook things!
Another quick question: I've got a linear pot as my volume control - should I replace that with an audio taper pot? Is that the same as a log pot?

It resizes automatically in my browser - I can probably remove the pictures now though if that's easier. |

Yeah, audio taper, log, A. They are generally better for that type of volume control.
Did you know, (well you do now ) that linear pots have a "B" suffix, and that the "C" suffix denotes an anti-log pot. ie; a log pot around the other way. C pots are actually quite rare these days and hard to get. If you see one in an old whatever, rip it out. They are like hens teeth.
I think it was Mosc who was telling us that originally the linear taper was "A" and the log was "B". Then, at some point, obviously to simplify matters , they swapped them! _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Just a warning -- make sure you see the actual words "log", "linear", etc., when you order a pot. If you have one laying around that you're not sure of, measure it.

I think he was referring to the large photos I posted on the other page. I've taken them down now. |

Ah yes of course, those loaded pretty large before they were scaled down here as well. _________________ Jan

Yeah, on mine they never scaled down at all. The page just stayed about 3 times wider than normal. I wondered if it was because they were embedded or a different type or both. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |
