Pitch Recognition Patch |
|
|
Hello all,
I play electric upright bass and I'm into free-improv, experimental stuff... of course I'm newbie to the Modular world.
I just got G2 Engine inspisred by Micromodular capabilities that a friend of mine is using in our trio (el.violin, bass and Signal Processing DJ).
Question: Is there a patch or anyone has an idea how to create/design one for G2 that would recognize (I do not care about recognition precision) any string instrument pitch. Kind of chromatic tuner that would trigger or modulate VA or FX section signals based on input signal's pitch/tone.
Appreciate, Sebastian. |

I'm an idiot!
I got my G2 yesterday so I had no time to look at manual. There's a module already that does the job - PitchTrack.
Sorry for bothering you guys... I used to strings |

Fozzy has done some work in this area, he plays bass but it may be helpfull.

String instruments have a lot of harmonics so a low pass filter on the input might be usefull. |

Welcome Sebastian,
glad you found the manual, more people should do so :-)
(although it would be nice to have an update on the manual, especially as there are rumours that it will be good, or did I just create that rumour ...)

Yes, welcome... Glad to have you here...
A friend once came over with his electric bass and we tried using the pitch tracker in the G2. It works great. You just have to deal with what happens when the notes fade out - the pitch tracker start jumping around trying to lock up. We just used and envelope follower to generate a signal to catch the pictch tracker in a sample and hold module. Works great. |

Thanks!!!
...and yes, RTFM...
The tracker works fine with 5-string upright as well as with 5-string fretted el.bass and even el.violin. I sent pitch ouptut to a simple scilator and gate to enveolpe filter (setup like form the tutorial from the manual). It worked! And I love these "mistakes". I don't want to put a noise gate in front of the tracker!!! |

He, he!
BTW. I just won Micromodular on an auction. Good deal. So I will have a good reference to the "classical" architecture and ability to try patches from the modular universe... |
