So I was playing Bass in a band, and we covered Gary Numan and Depeche mode and Duran Duran.. we needed synths...

We all played guitar...

I came up with a solution.

This was my first prototype. Current model is way prettier, in PurpleHeart... the keys are arranged like a guitar neck. VERY easy to play, every guitar player that touches it can throw down his riffs pretty quick..

tres facile, tres tres facile.

This is looking as if you'd look at the keyboard if yu were observing the guy on the other side playing it. Left hand on the joystick, right hand on the riffs.

I'll post pics of my newer models soon...

I don't understand how it works, but any guitar-button-thingie is cool in my book. Explain more please!

Looks good, I'm guessing each row represents a string, EADGB going away from the player, and each column is a fret, so the column on the right of the photo with two black buttons on the outside would be "open" strings.

Is it polyphonic?

The Shaggy DA is DEAD ON.

The buttons closest to the left are open strings, but I went B-E-A-D-G... I mostly play Bass. My newest model is six rows, B-E-A-D-G-C (all in fourths--easier to play that way)...

I'm trying to get some videos together of just a few classic synth songs on it.. Unfortunately I'm in the process of moving to Taiwan right now so time is a rare commodity for me.

It's FULLY POLYPHONIC. I love playing my Korg Wavestation with it, or any of the FM synths. One nice thing is compared to a normal keyboard, with one hand you can get some really wide, open chords (like a guitar, think about it, across four strings you can get an octave and a half spread with your left hand placement)..

PS: As a side note, generating rythm with a keyboard is the only odd thing coming from being a guitar player. I started getting the hang of it by learning to play Genesis' "that's all" and working out the rythmic keyboard pattern myself. From there I got a bit of a sense of how to make keys have rythm... since, well, you cannot strum a keyboard Smile. I never thought about it, but Organ players and synth players have an interesting time creating a strong sense of beat!

PPS: I'm currently building a model with a smaller (maybe 2.5 octaves) keyboard and a MIDIBOX SID with a Dimension C clone chorus all in a portable little "briefcase" type unit to take with me to Taiwan.
