Btw: Mono, that SDS3 demo you posted sounds lovely! For some reason I can't play the second one, but the first one did the trick for me Very Happy

Does anyone have a clear, top-down shot of the front panel of the SDS3?
Just to get an idea what's on there...

I'd rather not see pots mounted on the pcb but i always can wire from there.
Are the gonna be some mods added like cv control?

I think that pcb mount hardware can help and make a cleaner looking board and if some of us wants we could always add wires instead.
I'm not afraid of the overall size as I think this should be a standalone module, but maybe thats just me. Wink

we won't be matching trannies on this...

i should get a lot more work done today... i'll post a preliminary panel layout
as soon as i get it done

PCB mounted hardware will make the layout a lot easier. with a little luck we'll have this wrapped up in the next month or so....

There will at least be a CV for the pitch control.

On the orgional sds3 there were 3 drumchannels.
And one modulator channels with 2 lfo's if i remember right.
These could be routed to the pitch and the decay if i'm right.

got a little sidetracked, but it's been a productive weekend.

does anyone have a really clear close up of the front panel? the schematic doesn't really make clear what's a trimpot and what's a panel mounted... my instinct is to bring all trimpots to front, within reason.

Do we want the distortion null pot on the front?

it's looking like a single voice will fit into a eurorack panel...

i'm sure more questions will be coming up as this gets further along.

just about done with the layout...i'll start the double checking and testing next weekend.
if this works i'm thinking about doing a run of these. when it get closer to done i'll make a real announcement. looks like they'll cost around $8-10US each.

As Fonik predicted there is just not enough room for the pots to be PCB mounted if the PCB is to fit in a eurorack/frac faceplate and still be single sided for those that want to roll their own...
What I've decided to do is use a ribbon connector and a second board for the pots, jacks and switched. The header rows are around the edge of the board, so it should be pretty easy to wire up if you're putting it in something other than a Eurorack faceplate.

i'll keep you guy posted as this glacier slowly slide into the sea.

if you want to home etch this, you should make the traces much fatter.
in fact, i'd do that anywayz...

if you do a run, i will be in.
the mighty queue needs feeding, after all...

maybe this would be the right to time to make a decision: double sided professional PCB run or singlesided.
i'd preferred professional manufactured PCBs, no panel mount controls, circuit divided in voice and main boards, maybe just voiceboards...

what do you think?

they'll be 3 or 4 times as thick for the Press N Peel version, it's just easier for me to work with thin traces in the layout phase...

I think the boards are going to be complete voices, no PCB mounted pots. i'll post a P'nP layout for a control board in a eurorack layout...
i've been thinking pretty seriously about doing a small run just for me and a couple of friends. I want at least 8 of these and I really don't want to etch and drill that many.
i'll do a broader announcement next week and see what kind of interest there is in this, right now there are 25-30 spoken for so we don't need that many to get a good price on these.
it shouldn't be more than $8US each for the PCB, i'd like to get it down lower. there's a pretty big price break at 100. i'd love to see some 8 voice SDS3...
I will probably use MyroPCB, I've ordered boards from them before and I've been very happy with their work.

hi, i just registered here to post on this thread

i recently acquired an SDS 3. it really is quite awesome!
i'm only borrowing it however, but i am trying to convince the owner to part with it (wish me luck!). any idea what a fair price is for an SDS 3 and a single pair of pads ?

anyway, i would be very interested in some of these PCBs so add my name to the list. also if i can help in any way by virtue of having a real SDS 3 sitting right next to me, just let me know.
