i forgot: what internal carrier signals will the vocoder provide? i took a look at the ELRAD vocoder these days and started thinking about building it. now i found this thread. if you offered a PCB for such a project i would be definetely in for one, jürgen (and i now how large such a PCB would have to be!).

The Elrad Vocoder is the same as the ETI / Powertran vocoder, designed by Tim Orr who has also (co- (?)) designed the EMS vocoders.

The samples and picture from above are from a project that has similar filters as the ETI, but is otherwise different in many ways.

My vocoder will have at least 14 filters, maybe more - that's not yet decided. I tend to think the filters are already good enough, and additional effort should go into other, equally important features.

I haven't thought about an internal carrier signal much yet. Every serious application needs an external carrier, unless you build a whole polykeyboard into the vocoder as Korg and Roland did.
But then again, with DIY *you* decide what will be internal or external.

JH.

Wow...I'd love to build one of those...
Quite selfishly, I'm hoping you don't make this available until sometime next year, as I won't have that kind of money for DIY this year... Crying or Very sad

I will build one! At least, I will BUY one. Years ago I played an EMS 2000 and your "freeze ah" and "freeze oh" samples sound as beautiful as it sounded.

I have the MAM 11 band Vocoder and a soviet vocoder/strings machine that has become problematic lately. Knowing that some time I will have a Haible Vocoder, now I can think of trying to repair it (replacing capacitors, new power supply). I have schematics but they are in russian. Shocked

I don't think I will make it, so it will be great to build your vocoder, Jürgen!

Love that throat sample. If I had a vocoder that did that, I would never leave the house. Very Happy

This is too good to be untrue.
I'm in. Very Happy

Regarding vocoders, nobody ever mentions the
Buchla Programmable Spectral Processor Model 296:

Any comments? Smile

one suggstion:

it would be nice to have an insertpoint behind the Filters and bevore the envelope followers.
so you can use the filters as i understand as a Filterbank, and what counts for me:
you can use the envelope Followers independently.
( all as far i understand)

my personal Idea is that it would be nice to have a Matrixmixer to make own Drumsubmixes for each Band, and feed them directly to the envelope followers.
I think this might give one more time more poossibilitys about rhytmisizing Synthstuff.
Also with other sources than Drums interesting.

Hi Hemi,

funny, that´s exactly what I thought would be THE feature a vocoder should have that I can have really lots of fun with it...
I already sent this "feature request" to Jürgen a couple of weeks ago, and totally forgot to reply to his question where the inserts should be located.
But now you answered the question Very Happy

Best wishes,

Tobias.

Would you really expect that individual band triggering would be that much more fun that you already get if you put your drum sounds through the analysis input as usual?

Maybe, but... I'm not sure. And you could always do the same thing by playing more sine-like tones in the analysis input. Smile

(OTOH, anything could be interesting & useful when it comes to vocoders) Wink

I don't know how I have missed this topic before, would love to see this finished and maybe by that time I'll have some money to afford it.
Great sounds samples Jürgen.
