I've been wondering about the lack of a reset input?
You've been using this module - is there no need for it?

It has one on every input labelled "Pulse In"

Sorry if this is a double post.

These all look really great.
I understand it as a sequencer.
But I'm not really shure what programmer means.
Can anyone explain what does it do like a programmer?

Thnx

Ivan

Otherunichorn, Thanks! Didn't quite get that..

I thought pulse in was just an external trigger of that step - Which would've made it into something klee-esque: since you could set step 1 to trigger step 3 and 5 at the same time, and then have step 2 trigger step 4 and so on.. hours of fun! Oh well.. but the option of altering the reset point is great aswell..

I really really want to build one of these!

The term goes back to the original Serge module like this. Imagine the same module, but without the up/down inputs.
You would set up "programs" of four voltages on each column. You would then select the "program" you wanted by pushing the button, or sending an external pulse into one of the pulse in jacks. You could have several preset filter responses, or VC LFO responses, or even chords on a group of VCOs.

I get it now Smile
So I have 8 different stages with 4 different voltages each?
This is going to be in my next cabinet I think Smile

Yes, 8 stages by four rows. You can build it with as many stages as you like though.

you realise that that is the gate sequencer and not the programmer?

Thanks to this thread I just have realized this incredibly great Programmer/Seq. is. Given my backlog it is definately too big to handle now but is on my list!

Ken, thanks for your efforts!

I'm just preparing myself for the arrival of several CGS pcbs and thus ordering parts.

The BOM of the programmer/seq is confusing me: What is a MONOBLOCK cap?

Please help!

Quote:
Ceramic Capacitor
Generally a single layer capacitor that is flat and has a brown coating, Also have the name monoblock or monolithic in which the capacitor is made even smaller by creating multy-layers and coated in orange or blue paint.

Happy building! Smile

I've had my boards done for like a month. The frontpanel design is done.. all is done! Just need the pots and jacks so I actually can get it all together.

I ordered 8 A boards and 1 B board - going for a big programmer - but I've narrowed it down to 2 pieces of 4 steg programmers. (Need a new B board though - but that's a later problem..)

Though I figured I'd add a vertical output aswell! Take the circuit form http://machines.hyperreal.org/manufacturers/Serge/schematics/tkbpg1.gif
It's just a counter and a mux Smile

Woho! 2 months later and all I need to do is drill the panel, install everything and fire it all up!

I'll report back in 2 months...

That looks fantastic. The fonts and layout are spot on. What software did you use?

I'd love to see more photos of your faux serge stuff. I'm planning a serge style panel for my next project. The photo you showed of the cgs pcb's mounted in a frame was a real Idea for me.

Thanks man!

I've got it all together now.
Though row 1 & 2 is not functioning properly. Seems like there is little that can go wrong - I've just changed the sockets for the TL072 and atleast row 1 is somewhat normal (atleast it's not inverted - like it was before..). Row 2 just outputs a steady -15V.

Well, back to the scope for some more measuring!

Edit: Well, that was easy! Small solder bridge between pad R and S on stage 1.

Now it's functioning perfectly! Yay!

But I've been playing some with the digital noise pulse output to the VC divider driving the programmer / sequencer. With row 4 controlling the division of the divider - instant shuffle! I need something that makes a sound! Smile

Has anyone built this to 16 steps?

Ken's site says 10 stages has been done OK.

I'm considering it....
