Both my units have been returned now. I think I shall spend my refund on modular synth bits! Cool

Jyoti,

So....

Did you get some modular synth bits?

Or have you decided to give the Blofeld another go, now that the firmware bugs are supposedly fixed? Or are you holding out for the keyboard version...

Inquiring minds want to know! Smile

Well, my Doepfer morphing filter was faulty so I've returned that to EMIS (UK dealer). Once that's back, I'm going to spend the £300 on some more modular stuff. Dunno what yet! Razz

I do wish my Blofeld had worked. You should have seen how happy I was when I opened up my pressie. Sad

Well it has arrived, paint job looks ok.

Updated to 1.04 and all seems well at the moment, no distortion or crackling heard yet.

Only strange thing I have is that you cannot adjust the volume while the unit is receiving midi of the usb, have not tried a midi cable yet.

Sorry, mate. I had hoped the recent upgrade(s) had solved all the existing issues. It appears you've found new ones! Sad

However, don't get glum. Seeing how pro-active Waldorf are, I bet they're working on these glitches right now.

And you've had none of the bizarre crackling / aliasing / distortion I had so that's a huge step up.

Apart from the problems you're having, what do you think of it?

Well it seems to be working fine from midi just not usb. I have sent an email to support.

Just playing around with multi mode, presets and arps at the moment.

For a little device it can play a few parts, included mp3 is a live recording, 5 parts, three of which are the drums.

Cheers

Andy

Nice! Very punchy and clean!

Is that a preset multi, or did you construct your own? (I'm not that familiar with the multi mode yet -- too busy lately to play with the toys... )

It is a multi made up of presets.

I cannot work out how to load or save multis yet, I need to read the manual a bit I think!

Multis can't be saved. This will likely become available in a future firmware release.

I'd really like to see Waldorf add voice layering on the same MIDI channel, to the multi mode.

Hmm, that seems like a bit of a limitation. Any chance you can export them via sysex, so you can at least save them to your computer? (I don't have my manual handy).

Otherwise, I guess you need to get all your multi work done in one session, or make sure you don't lose power to your Blofeld between sessions!

Maybe program changes will work on each channel when you set it to multi mode, I have not tried this yet.

Got a reply from Waldorf, they say this behavior is normal. They use a "low-cost" dsp and the audio performance is at a high priority, with the screen update and volume at a low priority, if you send it loads of midi the screen will not be updated correctly.

I suppose the USB stuff takes up more cpu than the midi port.

Cheers

Andy

Well its "Feature Rich", heres another one:

Changing volume of one of the patches in a multi seems to effect the other patch volumes even though the volume display stays the same.

Makes balancing volumes in multis a little tricky

Sometimes the market has demands that can't be understood by techies.

I must admit it's a nice little synth though, I am willing to put up with a few teething issues until they are fixed.

Well, I gave it a few months in hopes Waldorf would work out the poor hardware quality, then went and bought another Blofeld today.

My third Blofeld has the same problems: flaking paint and noisy headphone amp.

I'm willing to accept that Waldorf just spec'd a really poor headphone amp, but the flaking paint is unacceptable.

I wonder if the $4000. Stromberg will have the same crappy paint? Confused
