Okay, find my problem. i do not had a connection on the *Free resistor.
i put a trim 2K there and the delay is fine with around 1.5K resistor, but it's adjustable. i probably try to insert a pot for "quality" as in the one extreme setting, it's really lowfish (and noisy) but nice.

Just wanted to say, I finished building this from the PCB and it works great! Having a lot of Throbbing Gristle type fun with LFO delay and a microphone. >Very Happy

The Feedback range seems very limited, though -- I'm only getting 4-5 repeats at maximum setting -- is this all I'm gonna get? The Rebote 2.5 I built seemed to get a lot more.

Would there be any possible way to clock a delay circuit like this from a pulse/trigger/gate signal?

So that one could sync the delay up to a rhythm track for instance?

I read through this thread looking for a hint of this kind of idea, but didn't find anything.

Not that I'm aware of -- but let me know if you find anything! I wonder if there would be a way to patch something like that up with a trigger/gate delay, an envelope, and something like a LPG...?

From the PCB? Where did you get that? Shocked

It was self-etched from the PCB layout in this thread.

I changed R7 from 100k to 24.9k - it now will echo indefinitely with the recirculation (feedback) pot at it's maximum setting. It will self oscillate too (although it sounds more like an outboard motor than anything else). You could probably use something even smaller than ~25k if it floats your boat Very Happy

Just finished this thing! New favorite module!

Dumb question, which one is R7? I changed the resistor that I *thought* was R7 and it ceased working until I put the 100k back in.

I could probably figure it out if I gave the PCB and schematic a good stare.

Plugging the Wogglebug up to this thing is sure sanity drain.

R7 is the resistor marked in purple, below. I also added a jumper (shown in purple) that was not marked on the original parts layout (earlier part of this thread).

I was wondering, hoping really Smile If one of the capable people here could etch me 2 boards.
I would pay for the parts, labor, shipping.
Thanks,

Asaf

This sounds like a cool delay - I might be tempted to put one of these together. I've got a Blacet Time Machine, which I can never get a decent sound out of. I see futurelec has the pt2399 - so this shouldn't be a problem. I've been playing around with expresspcb, so may be able to help the previous poster out with a board or 2 if I figure it out.

Before I go making this... can anyone post some decent sound samples? As I wrote earlier in this thread, I've already built the Tonepad ReBote delay using this same IC, and was very disappointed with the high frequency response, especially on the repeats. The lowpass cutoff is too steep in that circuit. So I'd like to know if this circuit is better in that regards. If anyone has made both, I'd also be interested in a one-to-one comparison, or even just your opinion on the difference in sound.

EDIT: found the sound sample on page one of this thread... still seems like a lot of lowpass going on, could be a lot crisper sound. Could anyone who has both delays built comment on any differences? Thx! Derek

Funny enough my version doesn't have that jumper, but works nonetheless. Looking at the schematic, it shouldn't, really.

In the build reports for the Rebote2, I noticed someone suggested replacing the op-amp feedback cap to reduce the filtering to the overall signal. In version 2, it was 100 pF, and this builder suggested 5 or 10pF. In the Rebote2.5, that cap is 5pF, but the filter is still too sharp! I tried removing it entirely but the filtering is still the same. So the culprit must be someplace else in the circuit.

How about removing the 0.01 µF and the 0.027µF caps? Those are filter caps, right? would that 'clean up' the sound?

Mind you that's exactly the reverse effect because these low-pass filters are there to "clean up" the sound by removing aliasing effects due to sampling frequency. If you rise the cut-off frequency of these lowpass filter you certainly will gain in higher frequencies but also you will introduce aliasing (spectral folding) and it may sound worse as a matter fact...

I think I tried this and got runaway feedback. Maybe some trimmer caps in there could work to fine tune it? I'll also pull apart one of the boards I made with this and check a few things out...

You should take a look to the 2399 datasheet.

If I remember right, the 4 0.1uF caps attached to 2399's pins are involved into signal filtering.

Here is the schematic of the PCB published in this thread

I completed the build of a dual/stereo Rebote 2.5 recently and it sounds very good! Very Happy I really like the distortion at 100%+ feedback Cool

can anyone tell me what the longest possible delay time (with one chip) would be? is it longer in scott's version than in the rebote?

also...is it that hard to chain them? (Do you just plug the out of one into the in of the next?)

thanks so much

Hard to reply because longer is the delay, crunchier is the sound. About 5-7 seconds but very lofi perhaps even more, 1-2 seconds for a "hifi" setting if i recall correctly.

The longest delay is shortest than my boss PS2 pedal.

Edit : Sorry Loss, I misread your last sentence.

I finally got mine working but I'm not too satisfied with it's performance.
The decay setting is really problematic. As many people have mentioned, the filter is very aggressive.. I'm getting maybe 4 repetitions. I changed out R21 for a trim pot to allow for more decay, but even with more decays, they just filter into mush by 4-8 reps. I've built several Rebote delays and I install endless repeats on all of them. I've never had any problems with the repeats being SO degraded. HELP!
Is it important to use a OPA2134 for IC1? I'm using TL072s for all opamps. I've tried switching out for other dual ops with no recognizable difference.

Hello Casper,

Do you think there's too much lowpass filtering to allow endless feedback ?
I don't really know which caps is involved in feedback filtering. I thought it was the 4 0.1uF caps, but I'm not sure. I'll had to disconnect these four caps to have an answer.. What's caps value are use in this place on the rebote delay ?

No need for 2134, I've just got some, and use them often on VCA circuits. They're cleanest than 072 on high frequency, but probably aren't so usefull here, as we have too much lowlass filtering.

My apologies about the 4 filtering 0.1F caps I mention twice in this thread. Those are not involved in filtering.

C3 5600 pF, C4 560 pF, C11 560 pf and C10 5600pf are the filtering caps tied to PT2399 Pin 13/14/15/16. I calculated the cutoff frequency of these 2 lowpass filters, and it seems to be about the same than Rebote 2.5.
