I can't link directly to the source of the joke, as ubercoolische.com is no longer around (although you could probably find what I'm talking about using the waybackmachine), so here's a discussion of the original joke that illustrates my qualms with it:

http://bb.4four.org/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=2302

Background: Ubercoolische was a site making fun of/glorifying Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, Magda, et al. There was a joke about Magda having to make tea for the dudes and they even sold tee shirts that said MAGDA MAKE THE TEA.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's funny, in the context of the original site, on which everyone, not just Magda, was caricatured and presented as silly and not really doing anything ever. It is explained in the linked thread that Magda's "make the tea" status wasn't intended to be gender-related.

However, the tee-shirts sold on the site, when worn, take the joke out of the context of the overall satire, and the result in comments like "she'd look even better in the kitchen", as also seen in the linked thread. And I think the sexist connotations there are pretty clear.

So, I just was thinking about this and thought, what better place to talk about this than here? So, I guess you can use this thread to talk about Magda, or tea, or being cool, moving to Berlin, and buying tee shirts. I jut wanted to get this off my chest.

I've got no idea what this is about. I don't know who they're talking about, or why, what the context was, etc.
So,....... Umm,....... Confused Smile

tee shirts:

the "episode" of the "soap opera" which explains the joke best:

Magda's myspace: http://www.myspace.com/minimagda

perhaps this clarifies a bit what i'm whining about.
