I'm not sure what you mean by "SoundLab Ver.2" _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Thankyou Uncle
I was on the internet last night and run across a stripboard editor called Veecad where you can import a net list and auto route. I like the apperance of lochmaster much more and going to try it first.
Thanks again freewave |

There doesn't seem to be a parts list for this? |

Cool, I want to get started on this project straight away, is there a higher quality .jpg of the stripboard layout anywhere? This one is a lot smaller and not as clear as the other stripboard layouts I've seen on here, I'm concerned I may make mistakes following such a small image.
Also, what is the .rst file, and what would I open that with on a Mac? |

There's one around here somewhere, I'll dig it out for you. Bug me if you don't hear about it tomorrow.
The .rst is the Lochmaster file, I don't know if you can get Lochmaster for the Mac or not. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Thanks! I look forward to it. I'll try and get hold of an old PC from somewhere so I can use Lochmaster. Sucks that it's not out for Mac though. |

I just checked the site, and there's no Mac version available
You could, however, try running a PC emulator on your Mac like "Virtual PC". Maybe that would work? _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Here you go,
this is the .rst file. |
It appears this is the .rst for the v1.0 board, not the version 2.0 board in the opening post.
Has anyone got either the .rst for v2.0, or a clearer image of the v2.0 layout... the one posted is too small to see clearly, and doesn't print well either.
Many thanks in advance. |

Version 2.0 (which has the 1V/Oct mod + Rays old S&H in the top left corner) is in that .rst, it's just under a different tab.
You'll also find a couple of other stripboard layouts of Ray's circuits, but some of them, like the single bus CV/gate controller are old versions now, so I wouldn't use them as is. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Does anyone know what the 9v1 zener diode is? I purchased some BZX79C9V1 zeners, hopefully these will be ok, but I'll wait for confirmation before committing it to the board. |

If it's got 9V1 in the part number, it should be fine. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

I now have stripboard Soundlab v2.0 under way, but I've had to substitute some of the components due to availability. Please let me know if these are OK, or if any are critical:
C14 (5nF) - now 4.7nF
C302 (200nF) - now 220nF
R7/306 (3M) - now 1M+2M in series
R150/151 (475Ω) - now 470Ω
IC2 (LF442) - now TL072
IC5/6/7 (LF444) - now TL074
I also noticed the parts list from the website, and the outputted parts list from the .rst differ (eg; there is no C13 listed in the .rst). I'm following the .rst list. |

I don't think you can get 5nF caps at all.
200nF would be hard, but not impossible.
Same with 3M resistors and 475R resistors.
The good thing is that none of those parts are critical.
I seem to remember Ray saying there was a problem with using TL0XXs in place of the LFs, but I'm not sure if someone has prove that wrong since. Won't hurt to try.
Keep in mind that I did that stripboard layout well over 2 years ago now and Ray has made numerous improvements to the overall design. Where in doubt, read up on his "SoundLab Plus" modifications and defer to those specs for the best results.
I have to give credit to anyone who takes on a stripboard SoundLab, it would be easy to get something wrong. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

I think it would be easier to copy the design verbose to start with, then make modifications later, otherwise I will run in to all sorts of problems. However...
There appears to be a problem with the transistors on this...
- There are 2x T1 and 2x T3, these are all 2N3904.
Basically there is a T1 and T3 directly above trimpot P1, there is also a T1 located to the left of the board next to C15, and a T3 located to the right of CD40106. (basically 4x 2N3904's listed, but 6 in the layout)
The question is, should I leave ALL of these in, ie keep BOTH T1's and BOTH T3's? |

Yeah, that's just me not doing a re-number. The important thing is to make sure it matches the schems on Ray's site. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Hi, just starting to wire up now. I noticed 'FT-1' and 'FT-2' on the board, what are these for? _________________ LektroiD |

I just had a look, and I can't remember exactly why I put them there. It may be related to the original schems, which I'm not sure are still around. (Ray has done a lot of updates, I haven't done any.)
Either way, they are at the summing nodes for the V->I converters, and with a suitable resistor (in series, usually 100K) could be used as extra frequency modulation inputs, or octave switchers etc. Or just left unconnected. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Well, it is finally built, and works great! It was worth taking the time to get it right, resulted in zero troubleshooting. It's a really crazy little machine, I've been running some CV through it. It does need a 100k resistor on those extra sockets, I've added a total of 11 sockets to the panel for experimentation purposes. While I was wiring up, I also noticed a CV / Trig Out and a S&H In on the board. I tried feeding the CV Out to the CV In 2 to match what was coming in on CV In 1, but it just muted the oscillator, so I'm presuming these outputs need a 100k resistor to work properly too?
I took photos all the way through, if it's Ok with everyone, I could do a photo tutorial thread in the forum (or even within this thread?) I'm sure it would be useful to some of the newcomers to pick up a few tips and techniques.
I'm off to post in the LM13700 thread now. _________________ LektroiD |
