Using external MIDI is a good workaround.
I have another suggestion. I have noticed that parameters assigned to the Modulation Wheel Morph stay consistent while changing variations. I use the two extra Global Modulation Wheels on my G2X for this. Works great! _________________ varice Last edited by varice on Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:33 am; edited 1 time in total |

this is a classic solution .. I've known it for years ... thank god for parameter exclusion via midi modules especially on overall patch volume, eh?
yay! |

Good trick with the mod wheels. I see you found the old thread as well, varice. Thanks!
I guessed that this was a known trick, though not written a lot about here.

I think you were the first to mention the MIDI trick. I did not know for sure that it would work, but I suspected that it might. I never tested that since I use the mod wheels. _________________ varice |

This means that if you tweak e.g. a filter cutoff in variation 1, that value will change when you go to variation 2, to whatever value was stored there. The desirable solution to this problem would be to have a function in the editor that allowed you to configure that filter cutoff to "global" or something, meaning that the value you set it to would apply for all variations.
An alternative solution to this is to tweak the value via MIDI, and use the MIDI Control receive module (instead of assigning the filter knob to a MIDI control directly) to set the value in the patch… This means you need to tweak the value using either some external MIDI controller or a MIDI Control send module placed in another slot in the G2, but the value that you set will stay the same when you change variations. |

Of course, in addition to the Modulation Wheel(s), the Control Pedal and Pitch Stick can also be used this way without being affected by variation changes. You can use the Device module to get direct control values and/or use the Morphs with direct device or external MIDI CC assignment to control parameters of several modules in a patch.
Also, some novel alternative controls that would not be affected by variation changes are suggested here:
