digital noise clock troubleshoot Subject description: 2nd of 3 cgs modules with build error |

got another issue, wondering if someone can give me help
my digital noise vco is not sweeping the full range i cannot get it to clock down to individual pulses, just a steady wash of pulses.
i can clock the unit with my cgs vco running as an external clock source and i have a full range and it sounds exactly how it should so i have a problem in my 4046 or somewhere before this.
This is a clean build, no scrappy solder joints and ive checked the component values around the 4046 vco section.
i have also increased the range of the speed pot to 50k and im still hitting the same lower barrier and not able to drive the clock down far enough
can i increase the range of the 4046 simply by increasing/decreasing one of the resistors/caps?

I don't think it is supposed to go real slow as is. Mine didn't go below the audio range either, so I added a 47n in parallel with the 10n via a switch. ken just suggested increasing the cap
i was just wondering as the metalbox samples sound like it clocks right down low and i doubt they would be modding it much. good to know yours is doing this too andrew. ill give a 100n a go _________________ problemchild

im going to do some investigation on how to max out the range on this thing, i really want to do nice sweeps without using an exteral vco and lfo. it almost might give me some insight into making extending the range on the wogglebug vcos _________________ problemchild

well first it isnt a bug, ken just set the range of the 4064 to be in the audio range so this is more of a mod. Mike from metalbox led me to this answer so big thanks to him.
all you do is up the resistance on the offset resistors coming from the 4064. It makes complete sense too as this is the connection on the wogglebug 4064 that has a 1M range pot. _________________ problemchild

I too would like to make that mode, but I am not sure which resistors should I change and to what value.
Should I change to 1M pot as well?

the wogglebug has a range knob, so if you want a range control on the digial noise you could add a pot, otherwise use a fixed resistor to dictate the range. i was suggested to use a large resistor value 10m or more.
if you look on the 4046 datasheet it tells you which is the range offset (pin 12) _________________ problemchild

I've found the best results for the VCO range are without that resistor at all (the 4M7 attached to pin 12)
Does this really need the range offset? I don't think so, without the resistor I get from super slow to super high (white noise sounds like white noise) on the digital outputs... _________________ http://loudestwarning.tumblr.com/ |

Nice one! I think you are right. After reading the datasheet, it looks like removing the 4M7 would lower the minimum frequency without increasing the maximum frequency.
I'm going to try it on my digital noise tonight. |
