update: tanks are ordered (on tuesday, sorry i've been too
busy this week to enjoy the forum)
it will take about 3 weeks before they ship them...
i got some packing tips when i ordered.
next we will need to determine the best shipping method.
i think the best thing will be each member can choose his
level of risk, but if you choose to forgo insurance/tracking,
you must not try to recover funds if the risk doesn't pan out
and the package is lost...
also everybody needs to agree to handle lost packages through
insurance and not try to use paypal chargebacks.
i was strongly advised by some folks with direct knowledge of
such things, that usps express mail international is the best way
for non-usa packages, but it is pricey.
there will also be some small charge for packing materials
we won't be able to get accurate costs until i have them in hand
and packed... |

speaking of the tanks, it's good to use longer coaxial cables to connect them to the boards. that way you can place them away from your modular and other sources of RF interference.
they're pretty sensitive and have been known to pick up the sound of a robot sneezing 1km away. _________________ Sneak-Thief - raw electrofunk |

i was planning on building a small box for each tank out of 1" MDF to isolate them as much as possible, is this overkill on my part? i tend to go a little toward the obsessive side. I've seen a few big plate reverbs and they are always in big, sealed wooden cases, that's sort of what i'm going on.

I'm not a magnatizm scientist (probably can't even spell it! ) but I'm pretty sure that MDF or wood etc isn't going to make much difference in blocking out interference. Plate reverbs are most likely in big wooden cases bacause the plates are big and heavy and need ample and stable support. What you want is something like mu-metal or similar alternatives. See the links below:
http://www.mumetal.com/about_mumetal.html
http://www.lessemf.com/mag-shld.html
Actually . . . I think the tanks themselves 'may' be made out of mu-metal, at least they usually loook like they are. That would be worth checking into because if they are then you'd only need a peice big enough to sheild the opening.
Best of luck! |

even if you put a mu-metal plate on the back, they're still ridiculously sensitive - but luckily not unmanageably so.
read Tellun's guide on tank placement to see what I mean. he also used back plates but still had to juggle their placement:

I know that the order has already been placed, but if anyone decides they don't have the money or change their mind I will gladly jump in and pay for a set of tanks. Probably a long shot but worth a try I guess. |

I can test a set, but if it doesn't work, I wouldn't be too quick to blame it on the tanks _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

hmm not sure, have to ask Jim
i sent out an email to everyone to confirm their paypal/shipping addresses (just to be sure) so if anyone didnt get it drop me a pm/email
Jim is recommending usps express shipping, but you can work that out with him. it is reasonably expensive but worth it for care and trust. we don't want no ace ventura delivery styles with these things

Oh! I thought you already had yours! I was jealous!
I just got an invoice from Jim for the shipping and handling and paid it already. |

the rubber grommets are there, but no bolts or screws.
i gather either is fine...

...Jim is recommending usps express shipping, |
just to be clear: for usa and canada, express is not needed.
for australia and japan, the cost is not too much more
and i hear there have been a lot of lost packages out that way.
express includes tracking and insurance and comes highly
recommended by some folks who ship a lot overseas...
i think we're ok using priority for uk and switz too...
just let me know if you 2 wanna bump it up...

Hi, regarding the options:
Scott is mentioning lots of options about part values and such things.
I should start populating the Boards. The cabinet with the Tanks was allready built in March.
What should i do, just follow the docs and BOM and ignore all the mentioned options, or are there some one should make ?
I also have made notices to make some CV inputs with attenuators when reading the docs early this year,
What do you guys think who have running the Tellun NA allready ?
any replies or tipps are appreciated,
thanks |

Got my tanks today They are huge! Way bigger than I expected. I`m gonna have to stack them, and my cabinet is 15 x 42 inches in the bottom. Big thanks to everyone who made this possible, especially Luke and Jim.
Now, If only I didn`t have to go to work day and night all weekend _________________ " I went through quite a few trannies til I found one I liked" - Wild Zebra |

Ditto for me too! Thanks Luke, Jim and everyone! I've got one single perfect place to mount them and I hope to God that the hum is tolerable otherwise I'm not sure where I'm going to mount them!
Now . . . since I have the tanks, circuit boards and front panel, all I have to do is order most of the rest of the parts and then build it, that's all! |
