Horn Emulator? |
|
|
I use FL Studio and there are some great instrument emulators but I was wondering if there is anything that sounds like a trumpet as a plugin or standalone. I realize that I can just use a trumpet sample on a piano roll type thing, but that gets difficult when you lower the pitch and it lengthens it, and you can't cut it up without taking the sample into a wav editor etc. Any help? |

what you need are multi samples with the trumpet sampled many times chromatically[rather than just pitch shifted]....... gigastudio has these patches all pre-mapped and velocity switched
other apps do this too..halion vst..any soft sampler worth it's salt can open up mult-sample programmes _________________ Spiral Recordings |

Get the freeware SFZ soundfont player from RGC Audio:http://www.rgcaudio.com/sfz.htm
Then do a Google search for free soundfonts. There are TONS of free soundfonts out there and even though I don't use trumpets I'm sure there are lots of trumpet fonts as well. It'll have you up and running in less than an hour.By the way SFZ works perfectly in FL Studio. |

TEKSONIK, sfz is really cool. How does a soundfont differ from other types of regular samples such as wavs? Why are they able to change pitch without stretching?
Also, does anyone know if a Granulizer allows you to lower the pitch of samples w/out lengthening them and don't some sequencers do it somehow? |

to get the cleanest, truest trumpet it's best to sample each note. If you're looking for a clean sound and aren't going to shift to far from the sampled pitch or you don't mind a little digital distortion, you can pitch shift without time-stretching. Many programs do this. You can do it studio-style with something like cooledit(now AdobeAudition) which has some pretty nice pitch shifting routines. Even Jeskola Buzz has a decent pitch shifter.
Yes, granular resythesis will do this too but with a pretty noticeable effect on the sound. I like the reaktor granular resynthesis modules for this.
And there's always FFT. You can find tons of various FFT stand-alones or if you're a bit more technically oriented, you can build your own with maxmsp. I think Pure Data has some FFT routines as well but it's been awhile. Simply multiplying the frequency information of your sample with varied frequency sine waves will have the desired effect.
A more lo-tek approach would be some kind of ring-modulation. Just modulate your sample with a sine wave, or a pulse wave if you're feeling robo {.::.} |

Thanks noiseusse. I've never really heard of FFT. I'm know you don't want to go into depth explaining it so I'll do an internet search, but if you want to fill me in on the basics I'd appreciate it! |

fast fourier transform. Basically this guy, Fourier, figured out that any complex wave can be represented as a group of sine and cosine waves of various frequency and phase. An FFT algorithm will split your sound into those component waves, sort of, and allow you to manipulate the frequency and phasing information. It takes you out of the time-domain (amplitude over time) and into the frequency domain (amplitude over frequency). |

If you don't have Giga or HALion you might look into Edirol Orchestral. All of the instruments are great. There are good patches for Classical trumpet, coronet and trumpet that i have used quite a few times. |

Looks like there are downsides to using IFRAME tag. If you know how to use the HTML IFRAME tag, you can include it in posts.
That was my brilliant idea. _________________ --Howard
