Would you prefer one PCB with 3 VCOs a la JH-5A, or 1 VCO per PCB with more features |
One PCB with Oscillator Driver and 3 VCO cores (like JH-5A - cheap!) |

Simple vco with 1 waveform output.
But great fm and/or am sound. |
I proposed doing this several months ago, but there wasn't much interest:

I guess if it doesn't say M... or B..... it's gonna get killed by the fanatics.

ian, i expressed interest at the time, and it remains... i wouldn't have seen this as an either/or situation, and would certainly pick up both if they come to fruition.
if you're queueing up projects, tho, i'm really looking forward to the DoubleDeka, ahead of anything else you've proposed... that is gonna be tasty! _________________ www.fluxmonkey.com |

I think we should move any more discussion of this over to its own thread.
Thanks.

Hello Jürgen,
I think your design with 3 VCO on the same PCB is interesting for me. I would like to use it to create string pads or brass leads and for that purpose saw and square waves are ok. And if your design is based on a saw oscillator it would be easy to add as many waveshaper we want on extra pcbs. What really matters is the detune automation... If I don't misunderstood what you described, I could dare to summeries it this way:
- linear detune (V/Hz) scale not influenced by the expo input (V/oct):
- 1 Hz detune between 2 oscillators (for instance 440 Hz and 881 Hz) stays 1Hz if I play an A5 (we have then respectively 880 Hz and 1761 Hz on both VCOs)
Best Regards
Alain
PS: Of course I would try one if your selling PCBs |

That will be one of its features indeed.

The result of the poll point at the cheaper 3 VCO model with less waveforms. A suggestion for wave selection could be the stepless variable saw/pulse waveshaper used on MOTM-310 and Micromoog/Multimoog. Maybe that´s more complicated than the toggle on the JH5, but it´s the solution Moog choosed for their budget Micromoog. It´s a nice function and I assume that it could make the living VCO even more living Last edited by Electronicant on Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:30 pm; edited 1 time in total |

It's going to happen.
I've been working some hours on this today.
It will be 3 VCOs on one PCB.
I start with the core parts, and then see what else will fit on the board.

No sine waves - sorry.
There is only so much I can put on a single PCB, and I decided to put 3 VCO cores there, plus a discrete PWM circuit per VCO, just like the JH-5 has.

Here's a little preview of what I'm working on.
Looks like I can indeed put 3 VCOs plus an Oscillator Driver on a single board! This may get very close to the whole oscillator section of my JH-5, just on a single 160mm * 100mm PCB.

Just finished PWM section of one channel.
PWM will be all discrete - no opamps in here!
Also, PWM works like in the CS-80: You can heavily overmodulate it without loosing the signal!

Well, you don't waste time do you Congratulations on the progress.
I will purchase two PCB sets at least regardless, but was wondering what tracking accuracy you were shooting for?
For outputs, there will be a PWM amd sawtooth as in the JH-5, right?
Thanks for your efforts and for sharing your skill and talent.

Tracking: decent. Good enough for a mono synth. No efforts to get ultimate precision.
PWM and saw, yes.
