This is a pretty cool little Hand Clap device that I've had for a while--however, it suffers one major drawback-- there's no way to vary the pitch of the clap sound. To me, it's pitched a bit high, I like really low slowed down sounding claps.

So, i'd like to figure out where (if?) I could insert a variable resistor to give me a little pitch range. But I can't find a (free)schematic for this thing.

Does anyone know this device and/or have a schematic for it?

Hi ericcoleridge,

Sorry don't have these schematics, but this pedal is well known because it use the BA662 I searched when I built my 303 clone.

I think, but can't be 100% affirmative, that's the same circuit as the 808 who use this OTA too. I built a TR808 clap clone, and the tune mod is very simple.

As you said, You should find the noise source connected to BA662 input, and search for a resistor/capacitors Twin-T network who filter the noise sound, and replace the resistor by a pot to have a variable filtering.

You'll had to find the same R333 resistor than in these schematics and replace it for a 22K (Log?) pot.

(edit : perhaps you could scan both sides of the pcb ?)

Thanks, I'll take a look at it again. I have this 808 schematic already, but I wasn't sure how close it would be to the HC-2.

I'll try to scan/photo the PCB and post.

it seems this is the diy kit version of the Boss HC-2
http://filters.muziq.be/model/amdek/hck100
at least the controls look the same.

can't remember where i found this...one of those 3am schematic trawls Confused

Cool andrew ! If hc2 use the same component values, the cutoff frequency of the bandpass filter next to the noise generator is about 970-1700 hz depending of dry setting

Eric if you feel the dry setting cut too high, you may change the 2 caps values to shift down the cutoff frequency.

Does the dry setting actually act as a pitch knob ?

Many thanks, I've been looking for that for years, where did you find it as the text is rather small for tired eyes.

Awesome, thanks. This does look the same, control-wise, to the HC-2. This is helpful.

Thanks, I definitely give this a try. But, do you think there is a way to get a variable pitch?

Edit:
I now see on the Amdek document where is says changing these caps will increase the "Dry" range. Great! This is the best forum ever.

Yes, now that you mention it. It's so very slight that I hadn't even noticed it as such. The "Hall" effect knob is also extremely subtle. But, despite having very little range, this is a really nice sounding clap; Very similar to an 808 clap sound.

Hi Stephen
you should be able to get it in the original A4 size or zoom in, its a large file, maybe download it and view it in an image viewer/Photoshop.

No idea where it came from but I suspect from one of the Japanese SynthDIY websites......thanks to whoever posted it originally.

the amdek is exactly the same as the boss clapper, the amdek was sold as a diy-kit

I made the e&mm scan and posted it to matrixsynth some years ago,
not very high resolution, but if anyone needs that I can make a better scan....

cheers

I would be very grateful for a higher resolution scan - many thanks. I found a photocopy of the E &MM page with that circuit but it has faded considerably over the years.

Hi, is there any chance you could post that HI-RES SCAN of the HAND CLAPPER schematic? Those part values are terribly hard to read. Also, do you have the Partslist? Thanks in advance.

sorry to bump a zombie, but any chance one of you kind souls could shoot me a couple gut shots of this beast?

i had one given to me last nite, but it's been modded somewhat and dissassembled, the input jack is gone, and it looks like most of the power jack wiring has been disconnected....poorly.

a pic to see what goes where would be awesome!

thanks guys

My pleasure (sorry I don't own a proper camera). Just ask if you need more pics !
Speaking of zombies, I congratulate for this crazy Gretsch pedal reviving odyssey ! Has been fun to follow, and what an achievement !

Arrgh ! You're right, it was Ludwig ! I had kept in mind 'the guitar pedal build by drum people' - as the reason for being ill-designed…
(and Gretsch make guitars too…)
Anyway, one has to (hand)clap to the wonderful job you lots did !

thanks, you know the project is available at RG Keen's site, right?

geofex.com

it costs about 150. american to build one, and there's now a few running.

my eyes have gotten too bad to build it, so mrdigi2t is gonna probably build mine for me. Wink

I know this is a bit out of date but here is a link to E&MM's review of the Amdek HC2 Handclapper. It has the schematic and hints on how to modify the output level, the tone and the length of the sound.Hope this is of help.
