Given that there seem to be numerous MIDI experts on the forum discussing things beyond my ken, perhaps someone has the answer to a far simpler problem....
I want to use my G2 live for both playing G2 stuff and for triggering audio clips on my PowerBook in Ableton Live! This seems to be quite straight forward but one problem I have is that there seems to be some real disconnect between the tempo clock in Live (set by tap tempo, which is really useful for percussive stuff) and the clock on the G2. It takes a while for the G2 to adjust to tempo changes it is receiving from my laptop and there is always a significant disparity between the tempo settings. The G2 clock seems to waver roughly around the Live tempo setting.
Any advice on this? Also, anyone else use the G2 to trigger samples with some set up advice? And is there a more elegant solution to assigning G2 buttons to individual MIDI notes (for triggering clips) than the attached file (each switch is assigned to a button in the parameter overview)?
Cheers, Angus

Why not just use the keyboard split, and use part of the keyboard to trigger Live? Then you get velocity, also.

I slave the clock on my G2 to an XL-7. No problems keeping them in sync.
Hardware boxes often have more stable clocks than computers.
Try using the G2 as the master.

Yeah, could do, but then I lose more keys on an already small keyboard. Plus, it's handy to have the buttons labeled appropriately.

I synch the G2 clock to Live because Live has a tap tempo, but I might try a piece of hardware like a guitar pod that has a tap tempo as the master clock.

Did you see http://electro-music.com/forum/post-19723.html#19723 ?

Maybe that can help to make the G2 the master clock.

I'd definately suggest this also. Software isn't renowned for it's stable midi timing. I use my MPC2000xl as the clock source and my G2 has no worries following tempo changes and the like.

Just an additional remark: this sets patch tempo's, NOT the G2 masterclock. I hope Clavia will add more extensive tap-tempo functionality that allows this and other issues.
