Good day good people of this forum, and greetings from Norway. I´m a proffesional musician and subject teacher in music, and i´ve just bought my first Nord Stage EX! Woho!

Coming from a line of musicians that have grown accustom to MIDI, and mac, I have always based my riggs around having one master keyboard, and some controllers. To my great greef i see that the NSEX88 does not support USB-MIDI! Evil or Very Mad
Is this true? And if so, what to do?

I use Mainstage and Logic + Live, All the time, and are depended on having easy access from the master keyboard, as i use some Omnisphere pads under the piano, Arturia Moog´s, and trigger some samples, etc...

What can i do to get a smooth experience? Is it best to get a usb-midi convertor? An soundcard with midi? Please give me some idéas!

Hi Buschmann
welcome to electro-music.com Very Happy
USB is only for the editor so communications must go thru midi.
it is not a big deal. either use an audio/midi or midi interface.

Something from Motu, Roland/Edirol/Boss or M-Audio?

The MOTU MIDI Express 128 USB or the MOTU Micro lite USB are nice. If you need something that can run standalone without a computer then the MOTU Micro Express midi is an option. Keep in mind that way too many of the modern midi interfaces actually require a computer in order to run at all and you might want a proper stand-alone MIDI patchbay/ merger/processor ( with computer interfacing over USB ). A USB midi-interface for project studio use will usually be a dead duck for live use.

And even if you find something that is a stand-alone MIDI patchbay/ merger/processor.. you must still make sure that it actually does what you want it to. An important issue is how you can save settings and recall setups.

anything goes, really Exclamation that's up to you (I use MOTU but it could be M-Audio, Edirol, whatever that suits your needs)

Hey another Norwegian, welcome to the forum.

We have another Norwegian Teacher as well but he is a little strange, actually all Norwegians are a little strange so forget that.

The Motu midi express 128 is a good interface.

Back to the beer for me beer

Thank you guys so much!

Now i need an explanation, or rather an opinion on how this would work out live. I like as few "thingys" as possible, to keep a clean workstation, and less wires to tripp over when I play. (or for the drummer to tripp over, is more correct to say..)
What im really asking for is: Would it not be better having one soundcard that would handle all of this? Sound inn/out and Midi inn/out in one box?

Or what are your opinion? A dedicated midi device and a dedicated soundcard?

And yes, we Norwegians are kinda strange. I guess it comes from our viking blood Exclamation Wink

if you get something like this audio/midi interface the drummer would have a hard time trying to trip over a single firewire cable connecting it to the computer (making sure you keep it close to the NS88EX Exclamation )
