The ChucK Show

producer: Inventor (Les Hall)

ChucK is a freeware music programming language from Princeton University. Those who program in ChucK, called ChucKists, share their code freely with each other under the GNU General Public License. Everyone enjoys each other's programs and all are free to copy and modify code with reckless abandon.

The ChucK Show features programs written by Inventor, kijjaz, Kassen, wppk, Frostburn, Slinky, and others. You can learn about ChucK by visiting the ChucK forum on www.electro-music.com, where we all congregate to share code, help each other, and joke around a lot. Some ChucK links:

Please post all ChucK Show submissions to the chucK forum, thanks.

I got a very good recording of the show. I know EdisonRex is proably busy with editing his own show so I'll take a shot at trimming this one.

Jan's been away - I'm sure he'll set things to rights once he's back.

Last night's show went swimmingly and Jan got a recording too! Next week: my Paranoid Schizophrenia album in it's entirety (!).

The Paranoid Schizophrenia show went well and so did this week's show. We ended up doing two hours instead of one because a ferocious storm knocked out Shane's power, but he was back in business after the extra hour of show. All was good. Now there is a new link for recordings, here it is:

http://electro-music.com/radio/archives/

Enjoy!

Les

It's been a few weeks now and we have been having a blast on The ChucK Show! Sunshine and her psychotic dog Ginger have been joining in on the show and besides the music, they really add a lot of comedy and fun as well as interesting dialog.

This week Shane and I tested a new setup that allows us to do live ChucK. That's right, not mp3's of recorded ChucK but actual ChucK programs running in real time! In fact, I took my homebuilt DIY cheapie controller and wrote a ChucK program for it that acts both as a microphone control and also as a "Demonic Chipmunk" Vocoder. You'll have to listen to the show to understand what a Demonic Chipmunk sounds like, haha!

Being live also allows me to run some of my interactive programs like the Digitar, the Generator, and Guitar Lab. Besides my own programs, we'll feature code by kijjaz, wmonk, wppk, frostburn, Antimon, and Slinky. There's too much code for one show so what we don't get to play will be on the following week.

So tune in Friday, you'll be glad you did! (and join us in the electro-music.com chatroom to get in on all the fun)!

Yeah, it sounds like you're having fun. Smile Just listened to the last one on the archives with a tiny scotch and Trackmania. Loved the demonic stream operator effect at the end. Laughing

Well, the accelerometer based tambourine went over fairly well, and Sunshine requested the theme from Close Encounters, you know UFOs and Aliens and all that.. So what did I do? I built it into her tambourine! Now it's a UFO tambourine. When you tilt it in the X direction it controls tempo and then the Y direction controls reverb. The reverb helps a lot and it sounds a lot like in the movie. We should have fun with this one, plus when you shake it it's still a jingle-jangle tambourine! Both the jangle and the UFO sounds have separate volume controls for maximum fun!

YVW and Thanks too, Bill! Yes, I will be at EM09 for almost absolutely certain. I'm going to bring computers and guitar and have a table somewhere.

Glad you enjoyed the show, it is fun to do and when friends like you respond positively that makes it all worthwhile!
