hello,

I'd like to make my computer (with cubase or ableton or any software on it)

to trig a hardware drum machine or groove synthetiser.

For each note the computer play the hardware's sequencer play one step

of his own pattern

Then the hardware will play with the groove of the note sequence in the computer.

because my music is african traditional stuf that 's can't be program in the binary or ternary of the hardware sequencer.

example of hardware : korg SX1, MFB synth II, future retro revolution

computer is connected by midi .

thank you

it's important.

Are you planning on getting something new, or do you want to know whether you can use any of the hardware you mention? The DSI Evolver can do what you want with its 16 step sequencers.

I have an Electribe SX-1, and I'm not aware of any stepping by note on functionality. Maybe someone else knows about the MFB and Future Retro.

/Stefan

Thanks for this information , yes I would like to know wich other instrument like the evolver can be step by a sound or midi note.

BUT, the real thing is,

is it possible to tweak cubase or ableton to do that with any other midi hardware sequencer?

or do i need something between the computer and the hardware
like a flame echometer ?

I don't know if it is possible to do exactly what you want to do with MIDI, but a possible way to get the same effect would be to use your 'groove' patterns to build up a groove template in Cubase then record your sequences from your external gear into Cubase and quantise them to the groove, then use the external gear as sound modules played by Cubase.

Apart from the evolver, the only other hardware I can think of where patterns can be stepped by midi note messages would be the Nord modulars

Yes this is exactly what I use to do and i have made an album like this.

It's a long process and it's more research than direct composing, you see.
