Well it hasn't been easy
I have managed to get some sound out of it which took a fair amount of effort in setting up.
Seems only to work if everything is on the firewire 400 bus and not mixed between 800 and 400, it took me a while to work that one out.
The Pacarana keeps hanging though, dead as they come. Maybe I have a duff one, I have emailed them for some help.
So I am reading the manual, and its a hell of a manual if a little bit out of date 12th Jan 2004 to be exact. Also everything talks about the Capy and not the Pacarana.
I am sure we will get it sorted over time. |

And it is extremely noisy, 4 small fans on the top. Maybe a bigger box and larger slower fans should have been used. |

The Capy is the same system and the Pacarana. The only difference is processing power.
So, anything that refers to Capy is the same as your system. Accept that your power is 100 percent more then a fully loaded Capy system. |

Well its turning into a bit of a nightmare!
The pacarana keeps hanging, I have tried a variety of firewire leads, different ways of connecting, different firewire cards, different swearwords etc.
I am pretty sure it is an issue with the Konnekt48 and the pacarana. I am testing this theory out now by just having the pacarana on and the Konnekt48 disconnected. It has been running like this for around 15 minutes now and hasn't hung yet, with the Konnekt48 connected it usually goes within 5 minutes.
SymbolicSound are on the case so hopefully they can sort it out and it isn't a hardware issue. |

Well it looks like the Pacarana hardware is not faulty, it has been running for nearly an hour and a half without the Konnekt48 attached.
So it looks like some issue between the Pacarana and the Konnekt48.
Hopefully SymbolicSound can shed some light on it when they get to work. |

Hmm too bad really ... hope this will get sorted ... t.c.electronic seems to have some issues with pc drivers as well ... my konnekt 6 thingie has nasty hickups on Vista, and on XP it looses the FW connection at times ...
What is the control computer architecture of the Pacarana like? I mean is it dedicated or did they just drop a mini-pc into it ... what OS & stuff like that ... _________________ Jan

I have no idea, there is a big label saying warranty is void if opened so I have kept the screwdriver at bay!
I am hoping to hear from them soon..... |

It seems to work perfectly with my little logitech usb headset thingy.
So definitely pointing to the combination of Pacarana/Konnekt48 causing issues. |

Kurt from SymbolicSound has got back with details of how to get a debugging log so they are on the case. |

Well I must admit you seem to get very good support from SymbolicSound.
They even rang me up to talk about it.
I seem to be the only one with the problem but they are working on a firmware fix now and will get it to me soon. So I must have stumbled across a little bug.
Cant ask for more than that!

Well its actually exceptional support.
They have worked on a firmware version for me to fix the problem and it worked first time.
Fantastic |

"extremely noisy" is an absolutely relative expression
all fans are temperature regulated and turn on / off according to the heat generated. once built in a rack and not sitting directly in front of it, the "extreme" noise is quieter than an average PC.
by some this may still be considered as "extreme", by others not...
YMMV of course... |

mmm, for me it is very noisy I must admit. With closed back headphones on I can still hear it.
Also it is on the desk at the moment so when I hide it away some of the noise will go away.
Also there is a modem type noise coming from it but Carla has told me a firmware upgrade will fix this.
It is well worth the noise though as it is a bloody fantastic piece of kit. |
