click on "profile" on the upper left corner of the page, go to "profile information"

and type something into the signature field:

You both need one and a lot of spare time from the look of it.

Kyma sound and video examples on the Symbolic Sound page are good, but only really just begin to touch on what the system is truly capable of doing.

Shocked You tell me that /after/ I buy a Mac Question

Actually I must admit I have become Macified again.

Years ago I used Apple computers starting on an Apple II, then Mac SE but sort of finished with a Mac IIfx which was a cracking machine that I worked on for a while with Lightspeed C. I remember it was lightning fast.

But then the pull of Windows and Unix work opportunities dragged me away.

Now I use VMWare fusion for running a variety of other operating systems and have been back on Apple machines for nearly three years and I must admit I prefer OS X to windows now, especially for audio stuff it just seems more stable to me even though cpu usage seems higher under OS X than XP.

Not that all is good though, Finder pisses me off and I still find myself thinking "how can I do this in Finder?" after three bloody years.

After a couple of years you get used to having only one main menu which is an absolute pain in multi monitor setups, I wish Apple would change this.

Good luck with your new Mac

Andy

Great! Will get a Paca then and see how long it takes me to max it out, probably not very long..

Well I just got to the part in the Manual/Tutorial where it says "At this point you will probably run out of DSP Power", when I looked at the DSP percentages the Pacarana was using 5% of total, so the paca would be at 10%.

How times change.

Concerning DSP power this MP3 which is made up of 6 different complex Kyma sounds uses about 40% of a Pacarana so it would run fine on a paca.

There is quite a lot going on. All of the sounds are from the Kyma library, I have just mucked about with them a bit, put them on the timeline and done some automation.

Nice sounds !

Yes, I will get a Paca and upgrade to a Pacarana within a year I think. That will be the way to go for me.

So these were not put through any processing? Sounds like the ocean sample is?

It is all very heavily processed, I went for heavy cpu intensive sounds to see what the DSP load was.

I have just cached the sounds (basically pre render to disk, like a freeze, so basically sample play from disk) and played the timeline which now shows around 1% which is what it shows at idle.

Just playing samples looks like it is free really.

Bob, what do you think of the Kyma compared to the G2?

What I'd love to know is what the import duties came to! I have tried to work out how much it will cost to import a Paca into the UK, but no luck yet. The UK customs site is a maze! The extra duties seem quite arbitrary from what I read on other forums.

Also, I swear I read somewhere that the Paca/rana can be used in standalone mode, without a computer, but I might have dreamt it... If so how would this work?

You cannot use the paca/rana without a computer. It uses Kyma X.

Have a look at http://electro-music.com/forum/post-242861.html#242861 which has a bit of info.

It is a very different beast to the G2.

0% import duty as it is classified as a computer, but you have to pay VAT on it and import charges by UPS for sorting it all out for you.

I Paid £467.54 on Import VAT for a Pacarana.

Andy
I think this thread is misnamed. it should be split somewhere and given a more appropriate name. Would you do it?
