Here's a nice one for live-performance.

It's an interactive four-voice polyphonic pattern arpeggiator. You can also think of it as an four-part auto-accompaniment generator.

It recognizes up to four pitches played on the keyboard (or received via MIDI) and intelligently assigns them to four MIDI-clock-controlled sequencers that contain note-gates/triggers that define the rhythmic patterns of those pitches, and the corresponding velocity levels. These sequencers then can individually control other slots or external MIDI gear.

So you can eg. assign the lowest part to a monophonic bass sound and the upper remaining ones to a polysynth patch. Defining different patterns for the voices will then generate a MIDI-clock-synched rhythmical auto-accompaniment that follows the chords you depress on the keyboard, with the bass always on the lowest note of the chord you play, and the other notes controlling the polysynth.

The four voices are named "bass", "tenor", "alto" and "soprano" -in order to clarify their functions.

The controls:
Page A1:
MIDI CLOCK: midi clock settings
VOICE ALLOCATION: If you play less than four notes, this parameter will specify if the depressed notes will be assigned to the voices from low to high (so if you play just one note, you will hear the bass voice with it's rhythmic pattern), or from high to low (which in this case will play back the soprano voice).

Page A2:
-Velocity ranges of the four voices. This will set the overall range of the velocity levels contained in the voice rhythm sequencers. Muting this will mute the voice completely (no MIDI data will be generated).
-MIDI channels of the four voices. For driving external MIDI gear or other slots.

Sections B, C, D and E are the rhythm-sequencers for the four voices. The buttons are MIDI-note gates or -triggers (which can be specified) and the levels above are the corresponding MIDI note-on velocities.

Idea Works well with the keyboard hold function

Idea The sequencers can also be set to different lengths for polyrhythmic mayhem. Smile

The patch uses one slot and requires four voices in the VA area. So make sure there is always this amount. Less voices will result in some sequencer-voices not playing. More will make the patch behave strangely.

Two files: The basic patch, and a demonstrational performance with the patch driving 3 other slots. To hear it, start the MIDI clock and play a four-note chord on the keyboard.

cheers,
tim
