I'd actually like to use PCB mounted jacks on this one. Can anyone point me to a supplier that carries the cliff 1384's that Fonik uses? I checked my normal suppliers and turned up nothing. Pretty-please?

the 4017N, I have a pile of 4017 ICs here;

4017B
HEF4017BP
TC4017BP
TC4017BPC
MC14017BCP

Any of these any good as a substitute for the 4017N?

I'm starting to think that I need to build an 8 step version of this. It's like instant Autechre when feeding it a bunch of different audio.

Yeah that was what i was thinking when looking at the schematic as we are only using half the chips outs. In fact i'm having an idea of making a 8x8 matrix or 4x4 matrix switch. What do you think matthias. Cool

The reason I asked, was because on the datasheets for these, there is no mention of 'high speed' on the 4017B, yet there is on the 4017N. But if any of the ones I listed will work, I'll not add the CD4017N to my next order of components

now that you mentioned it: i could do a 2nd run for an 8 step switch.

BTW i am currently prototyping an 8-step VCF. in fact a 8-step switch and 8(!) SEM based multimode filters.
for each filter you can set ext. CV amount, freq, Q, mode (LP/BP/HP) and pan.
the filter boards are already in, i am currently stuffing them. the main board prototype (in/out/switch) has to be ordered still.

Just to throw an idea in ...

Last week I made a sequential switch with about the same functionality as the Q962 http://www.synthesizers.com/q962.html

Only with four steps and a extra shift down feature.

so you have :

-step select inputs
-gate outputs
-shift up / shift down inputs
-manual step select

At the heart it uses a 40139 4bit up/down counter with a parallel load input, step select inputs and manual input are parallel loaded into the counter.
The shiftup/down clocks the up/down inputs on the counter, simple as that.

Being a 4 bit counter this can be easily expanded tot eight or even sixteen steps.

If anyone is interested in the details I'll draw out the schematic.
