So now that the Cucamonga LFO is done, I was wondering what project from AS21C people would be interested in seeing next. The schematics in the book include:

Power Supply
ADSR Envelope Generator
XR VCO
LM VCO
VCF / VCA
LFO (done!)
Sample and Hold
VC Noise
VC Phase Shifter

I have a few other PCBs and projects in the pipeline (including Thomas' VCO book and ARP clone VCO and VCF boards), but I'd love to hear what AS21C stuff people would like to see next. There seems to be a lot of interest in the XR VCO, and I was actually thinking of attempting put the VC Noise, S/H, ADSR and a simple LFO all on one board, with a scheme for 'normalled' connections so that the different parts could work together or be used separately. I think that would make a very cool mod source, and a handy PCB to have (which I was going to call the "Mod Squad"). I also think the SV VCF / VCA combo would be a fun project, or perhaps use Thomas' SV VCF design and make it into a dual SV filter (which you can do with a single 2164 VCA chip).

Anyway, goofy names aside, what sparks your interest? Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

I'd also love to hear from people who have built some of the other circuits from AS21C. What are your favorites? How do they behave?

Thanks!

I had emailed you about the VCO-1, and after your response I'm definitely most interested in the LM VCO, followed by the XR! Very Happy

I'm interested in the XR VCO and the LM VCO as well.

I'd put my vote in for the ADSR, as this would give enough modules for a basic TH synth.

The ADSR is such a TINY circuit, it should be multiples on a single board IMHO.

I fit 3 on an express PCB mini board (2.8" x 3.5").

If not at least pair it up with the S&H or something.

Exactly. That's why I was thinking of putting the ADSR together with the S/H, Digital Noise and maybe my 8K LFO to form the "Mod Squad." Should be able to shoe horn that all onto one PCB, and then you have a nifty little self-contained modulation module.

I would like a board for the VC-Noise circuit!

Okay, that sounds cool too! Very Happy

I think things may get a bit tight on a front panel with this lot (Thinking of a MOTM style 2U panel for example, these normally aim for 6 pots and up to 12 jacks).

I make it 8 pots and 12 jacks. I would see the pots being the main constraint, the 8K LFO is the one that tips the balance I suspect.

Well Mag, it would be a fairly busy panel, but it would also have what would normally be three or four different modules. You're right about the panel parts count though. My version goes with 10 pots and 13 jacks. For a Euro / Frac layout, I was thinking of devoting four spaces in something like the attached. I think it would be nifty, be that's just me. Wink

Tim (just a thot) Servo

(in the layout below, the LFO would be normalled to the S/H clock input and the ADSR Gate, while the Digital Noise would be normalled to the S/H sample input.)

for me, not so much. altho the components might fit, the board-to-panel wiring starts getting pretty hairy. also, i generally prefer to have things separate, in terms of versatility/flexibility... that's what makes it modular. just my $.02.

i may seem a little bit quirky, but i liked to have the VC phase shifter. we don't see lot of PCBs for phase shifters, don't we?

i made a PCB myself, but it does not work (actually not at all) and i am still looking for the error Wink
