Subject description: They open SoundForge instead
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

For some reason, when I click on a sound file attachment these days, it doesn't automatically open media player and start playing.
Instead, it shows an open/save/cancel box and when I say open it starts downloading.
When it's finished downloading, it opens SoundForge and I have to manually "play" it.
This is probably because of something I've done, but I'm wondering if anyone knows how to fix it.
Thanks heaps,
Andrew

ok .. ie uses the xp file associations I think .. lemme see .. xp .. right most computer ... ok found it ... if you open a "normal" file explorer (ie not ie), then you have a tools menu with folder options in it. Then when that one got clicked there is a tab "file types", mp3 should be in the list under registered file types ... you can sort it on extension for easier searching ... click on mp3 .. then under details it will say what program it will be opened with, and you can change that there as well .. from SoundForge to WMP in your case.

I think that should do it ...

you probably need to change the file associations for mp3s

somehow soundforge has got set to be the program to use when playing mp3s when you probably want winamp or whatever your mp3 player is set to do it instead

From the Control panel you want Folder Options, File Types to see what program is set for files with extension of MP3 to open with and Change as required

I was going to respond by saying "Yeah, yeah, I know about file associations! I basically invented file associations back in the 70s,... Rant, rant, etc.etc." Wink Laughing
But I checked anyway, and my mp3s actually had been associated with SoundForge! Shocked Now how the hell did that happen? Rolling Eyes Laughing
So,...
Now it does open WMP and play the file. But,.... it still puts up a Open/Save/Cancel box and waits until the file has completely downloaded before starting it.
Thanks heaps for the suggestions. Embarassed

I wouldn't have even noticed if they weren't streaming perfectly about 3 months ago.
I think it's because of this new version of SoundForge I installed.
I might try the settings in IE and see if there's anything about streaming in there.
