If you're not too happy with America's right wing Canada is just a bit up north. Socialism is really popular over here, and we have laws for just about everything. They just recently banned smoking in rented apartments.

I don't think that has anything to do with Socialism. The British government were suggesting such moves here recently. It's really about governments of all backgrounds who have simply run out of ideas, and therefore are pandering to the needs of everyone. Tories, Liberals, Greens, Labour, same difference.
Worst still is if you don't vote for these idiots- the little man gets in, instead.

IMO it has something to do, I've always seen socialism as a huge mother states that reaches far into your homes to tell you what you should do. It's now to the point where it really limits our freedom. The new fad is banning bags through legislation, stores are forbidden to give or even sell plastic bags to their clients.
And the media is just as biased, only the other way around. If you ask many Canadians what they think of USA, you'll get a lot of very negative opinions. Through media brainwashing, the population is convinced that most Americans are stupid rednecks (not my personal opinion). Bush bashing was a national sport in Quebec.

Oh, that's interesting Dew. Last time I went to USA, I was about 10 years old. So I don't know much about rednecks and thought they were somehow confined in trailer parks and pretty much marginalized. Last thing I want to do is make a judgment based on Canadian media bashing all Americans with broad generalization.
Although there is one thing I hate from America it is that whole Gangsta Rap culture No thanks for exporting your hoes, crackwhore and fake gangsta stuff. We used to have cute chicks around here, but all I see these days are fat bitches with dirty words written on strategic areas of their pants. Also weed quality has gotten abysmal since the blood/crips took control in Montreal.

I exaggerate, of course but there are large geographic areas in the US where empty-headed, reactionary religion* is seen as a valid substitute for education. Google "Sally Kern" -- she's an Oklahoma state rep. and she can hardly open her mouth without saying something medieval. And she convinced a majority to elect her.
