Subject description: My performance of handmade ribbon controller(videos)
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Here are video clips of performance of my handmade ribbon controller.

My ribbon controller is constructed three parts as follow.

"Ribbon controller" - which is made with a film of electric conductor
(like black paper which include carbon , or rubber conductive bag.
It is pasted to the vinyl chloride seat.)
Body is made by conduit pipe which is used at office etc.

"Handmade simple analog oscilator" - which is include NE555 as main oscilator, and cmos frequency divider.

"Multi Effect(KORG AX1G)" - Sound of my analog oscilator is like
poor buzzer. But it is processed various sounds by multi effects(like you listened on my youtube videos).

more videos are here. check it out!

Please see also my home page

Thanks.

welcome!!!

I'm glad to see you show up here - I've been watching your YouTube videos for quite some time now. I really like them - you really know your way around a ribbon controller!

I've been working on a touch ribbon for a couple of months now - I guess I've stuck it in the wrong forum Embarassed I've been designing it around the SpectraSoft SoftPot series.

You can see it here:

Take care,
Scott

Hello everybody. Thanks for your impression
I'm so glad.

Dear Scott>
I want to see your touch ribbon controller.
When you finish yours and upload video etc, please let me know.

And your synth DIY site is very very cool!
I will refer your site when I make new electric musical instruments.

Thanks.

I'm working towards the capability to upload videos to YouTube! But don't expect any virtuoso playing like you can do. Laughing Having worked on this project, it really impresses me how skilled you are at controlling your ribbon controller.

Take care,
Scott

Damn, the last video really kicks! Reminds me of Guru Guru's 70ies albums. Now THATS a JAM. Though lacks some bass. Really, third instrument (bass) would give THAT groove.
anyway, great respect and all!

Thanks Dear Ojd. What a brilliant comment! I have liked Guru Guru since about 20years ago. In 2005 , I had the oppotunity to perform with Mani Neumeier (leader and drummer of Guru Guru). Because he stayed long in Tokyo at that time. Of course, I played handmade ribbon controller when we performed. It was great time. He is still super drummer!

Hi Yuichi
thanks for listening Very Happy
If I understand correctly your ribbon controller does not send midi data but plays its own oscillator. Right?

Yes, Right.
Oscilator is not controlled by MIDI.
It is just simple analog oscilator.

I updated information URL of my ribbon controller.
There are schematic & some photo of inside of my RC.

Yuichi
have you ever thought of attaching your ribbon controller to a guitar strap to play it standing up instead of sitting down Question

Thank you for posting that. What is your source for the ribbon material? What is the total resistance of the ribbon?

Thanks!

Very Happy
