Nord Sound Manager -- basic question Subject description: Programs using Sounds...where's the relationship? |
|

Hi all. I'm brand new to this forum, since I just got my first Nord keyboard a few days ago, an Electro 3 73. I am very happy with it so far, but I am really perplexed by something. I'm getting a Nord Stage EX 76 next week, too, so I need to get this clear in my head. I'm sure it's an easy question to answer.
When you look at the library using the Sound Manager, it shows you either the program list, the piano library, samples library, or organ model presets. I don't see anywhere where it shows you what sounds are being used by what programs, though. There is no visible parent/child relationship. If you look at the Electro 3 itself, you see which it is using, but not on the software that I can find. (I hope I am simply wrong about that).
So, practically speaking, what if I want to remove a couple of the piano sounds? What am I supposed to do to determine all the programs that are using those two sounds? Write them all down? Run back forth between the Electro and the computer? It seems weird and inefficient to me.
I am buying Nord keyboards because they really do make me feel like a keyboard player again, instead of a programmer, but this seems like a basic necessity when you're dealing with customized sample libraries, etc....
Thanks in advance for any answers to this. |

You're not wrong - thats how it is.

If you delete a piano or a Grand, the NS will automatically replace with one of the others pianos or Grands. If you delete them all - I think there will be a flashing in the emty piano/grand-bank, and there will of course be missing a piano sound in the relevant program.
If you delete/replace one of the synth-sounds in a program, the new sound will take the place from the old sound.
So you'll need some good routines, and maybe create a sound-stack that you'll mainly stick to.

You can't get it all...but I agree - it's kind of old-fashioned.

Thanks for the reply, Casi. WHile I'm not thrilled about it, at least I know what I'm dealing with. I guess "feeling like a keyboard player again" brings with it having to juggle the technology from 1995. I do have to hand it to Clavia just the same. A tiny company like that has been able to compete globally with Korg, Roland, Yamaha, etc... They have their niche, and we either go for the ride or choose not to. I've chosen to go for the ride. I do hope they improve their software in the next release though. |
