Laptop first for me to see how that goes.

The MacPro has a mirror bootable raid system that I will keep as is for a while just in case!

Keep us posted Andy.

Apparently the Finder has been entirely re-written in Cocoa- which is great news. I hope this will make it far more snappier! Very Happy

No added functionality to finder though!

I gave up a while ago with finder and started using pathfinder, its excellent even though it looks a bit tacky!

Yep thats the one.

Opens my applications folder immediately unlike finder which chunders along for over a minute calculating the answer to life the universe and everything.

That and the copy path to clipboard in various formats sold it to me.

Do you know that I have no problem with the current finder whatsoever! You need to stay off the crystal meth I reckon Shocked

Then again, I only use column view- which is lightning fast is it not?

Just read something interesting:

By default Snow Leopard starts up in 32bit kernel mode, 64 bit apps can be run but the kernel is still 32 bits.

This to me sounds the same as 10.5!

You can press a key combo (6 and 4) at startup to get the kernel running in 64 bit mode!

Yeah I'm annoyed with the sluggish Application folder in Finder as well. Would it be possible for you to check if the new Finder handles that better, even though you've stopped using it? I don't know if that will be the killer feature for me, but it would be nice...

/Stefan

I will report as soon as I get it.

It may be a while, it will arrive next week while I am away on work and the following weekend I'm going to be busy writing a hit single with a mate and his teenage son, so early the week after next unless the horror stories have put me.

The killer feature for me is hopefully decent usage of multiple cores.

Actually I find that remark a tad insulting, as I DO use this computer as a "power user". I have to manage hundreds of photographs, text documents, pdf's and other wild file formats every day. I don't have a problem at all.

But then again I have a memory like a sieve, and I tend to dream a lot (while awake)- so perhaps it is just me. I'm also a one finger typing cowboy! Rolling Eyes Laughing

Insulting!

I didn't realise you were that thin-skinned, I even put one of those smily things on to show it was a joke.

It is hardly controversial that Finder is fairly slow especially when updating directory contents. However, YMMV depending on disk size, how busy the machine is and number of files and such.
