I’m planning on building a filter for one or both of my SN-Voices and I’d like your opinions on what kind of filter you like best for the SN-Voice. I currently only have a Moog LPF and a MFOS SVVCF in my modular. My criteria is that it should be a simple design, in keeping with the spirit of the SN-Voice and TH’s minimal parts for maximum effect philosophy. Now I do realize the VCF will have to be placed after the SN-Voice as there is no break between the VCO, Noise and the SN’s “VCA”.

Currently I’m considering the Wasp, the Moog, Steiner and MS-20. I’d like your inputs on these or other designs. Thanks!! -Dan

what about SSM2044? it is a filter on a chip, like the SN76477 is a synth on a chip. an i like it.

Matthias,

I like your logic and the SSM2044 does fit my criteria! I will definitely consider it!

Thx, Dan

I almost always run my SN-Voice into my Polivoks, but that might just be because they're right next to each other in my modular.

Have a look at Neil Johnson's SSM2164 based 18dB VCF here:

http://www.njohnson.co.uk/ (Under the Electronic Music, then modules links)

I've got one of these PCB's in my project stack, which will be used with my SN-Voice at some stage in the near future.

Magic Smoke also use this chip in their T-H Mankato VCF, so you have a ready source for the chip as well. You could also plump for the Mankato, but you could hardly call this a simple filter.

Regards

Magman
