A few hours ago my brother called me and told me that my dad's condition had turned horribly for the worst. He has cancer and other conditions and he's on a ventilator and in a drug induced coma until tomorrow when they pull the plug at his request.

I'm deeply saddened and I've turned to local and chat friends for support. This has helped a great deal. So has the vodka.

The man is only 64 years old, this is horrible. We were not that close and there was a lot of conflict over the years, but it all seems to melt away now.

Let's each and every one of us value every moment that we have.

Les

I'm very sorry to hear that Les. I lost my father to cancer, and it was one of worst periods, if not the worst period of my life.

A friend told me after I came back to work after his death "It gets better". Little by little, day by day, it does. Just try to keep that in mind.

I'll be thinking of you.

Les,

that's an unfortunate condition that many experience. me included.

My dad passed away 7 years ago (complications of Alzheimer's disease).

There is not much we can say but the pain will slowly subside and if you want to see the positive side of pain, it is clear that it makes you appreciate more its absence.

Hugs,

Carlo

A thing I learned about situations like this: be there! Is it possible to be at his side and with those who are there too? It helps a lot to 'give it a place in your emotions'. It is much better than staying at home...

I cannot be there, unfortunately. He lives far away and I am poor.

Pain, I've known pain. This is not so much pain as it is bittersweet sadness. Bitter because his life is cut short, but sweet because I know he's going to a better place that he deserves.

I don't know, I'm trying to form words but it not easy. He had three wives, five kids, and a history of both success and failure in business. I'm named after him and I seem to have unwittingly followed his path.

I have a lot more to say about him but I'll stop. Thanks for all your thoughts and concerns.

Les

Hey Les, bad news mate- I'm sorry to hear.

When my wife's mum died a year or so ago, it had an effect on me- very depressing, but if vodka helps you though it, then vodka be it (just don't drink too much, because we'd hate to loose you too!)

My thoughts are with you Les, sorry to hear that. Sad I lost my dad about 5 years ago too and I know it's not an easy thing.

So sorry to hear this Les. My sincere condolences for you and your family. I hope your Father rests peacefully and suffers no longer.

I lost my Dad 13 years ago and I've counted every day. We were very close. The pain has never gone away for me... Ive just learned to live with it better.

I'm so sorry to hear about this my friend. I am with you as much as I can be in this virtual world - you make it more real by being so open and honest.

My thoughts are with you.

I'm really sorry to hear that Les.
My Dad passed away in a similar way about 12 years ago.
He needed sudden bypass surgery which went wrong. I told him I loved him over the phone before the operation, but two days later when I got there, he was brain dead. We turned off the machines the next day.

If you can't be there, try to organise a ritual of some kind to say goodbye. The sense of finality is an important part of the grieving process. Write him a letter. Have loved ones close by. Play him a piece of music to guide him on his way. Remember, and talk of, the happy times you shared. When all is said and done, his life was a beautiful thing.
Celebrate it.

Amen bro. We're going to have a weekend jam of some sort this afternoon (US time), evening (Europe time). Not sure about Aussie time. I'll play guitar and as usual Jan will host. Nothing too sentimental, just friends celebrating his life.

My condolences also, Les. I lost my dad to cancer 9 years ago.

Your dad is probably in a much better place now.

I heard from my brother. My dad dies in just over an hour. They say the last sense to go is your hearing, so us kids are all going to call and speak to him via cell phone. The only thing I want to say is our last words together which were "I love you", and that's the last thing that I want to hear when it's my time.

Things were delayed. They'll pull the plug in 3.5 hours, at 5:30 EST, which is 2:30 his time representing Psalm 23 for significance. I'll be playing guitar to escort him on his way, maybe he'll hear it somehow...

Dad passed at 4:07 pm EST, ten minutes after they pulled the plug. We spoke to him by cell phone and he got a tear in his eye, so we know he heard us.

20 minutes after my Dad died today I had a powerful urge to write a song. Here are the lyrics, hope you like them. The song is Copyright 2009 Les Hall.

Les

Quote:
Rescue Mission

There was a time
When Heaven and Hell
Divided reality
And souls were lost.

When my father died
I thought the notion:
If he's not in Heaven when I get there,
I'll go to Hell and get him!

In a timeless cosmos
With creatures of light and darkness
An ancient battle ensued
Creating Hell's dark torment.

Yet it's said that God's will
Is that none shall perish.
So the Angels and the Dead
Formed a rescue mission.

"We'll go to Hell" they said
"And bring back all those lost."
What nobler purpose to serve
Than saving souls.

The bells and chimes rang
Echoing through the Heavens,
Heralding a second battle:
The invasion of Heaven into Hell.

Through the gates the light shone forth.
Jesus led the way.
The light of God and Angels shone
Illuminating the fires of Hell.

The bars were torn asunder,
and inside that huge chamber
A thousand souls were stolen
From the clutch of Lucifer.

Down from above and up from below
Streamed a hoard of Demons mighty.
Each of them were captured
And shown the light of God.

Deep into the labyrinth of Dante
Those Warriors traversed.
At the speed of light they went,
Gathering souls along the way.

Brightness filled every corridor,
every crack and crevice was lit.
And when nearly all had been saved,
They found Satan's inner chamber.

Inside were powerful forces:
Greed, Arrogance, Ignorance,
Torture, Mayhem and Dismay.
A host of Evil filled the room.

So a special team came forth.
Suffering struck at Torture.
Humility fought with Greed.
Knowledge faced off Ignorance.

One on one they battled in pairs,
While Satan tried his best
To turn the tides of battle,
But little did he know...

In his twisted brilliance
He did not conceive
That his oppenent would arrive:
The Lord Jehovah Himself!

For God's will is that none shall perish,
So even Satan must be saved.
Into the chamber flowed light so bright
That walls of stone melted down.

Thorny hides of Demons crumbled into dust.
All the Evil that they conjured
Was absorbed and cleansed.
Until all were captured.

Satan was restrained
With ropes made of children's hopes.
Beauty stroked his face,
And Joy took his place.

All those souls of Hell
Were taken to The Lake of Fire.
To fulfill the Bible prophecy
Of the end of time.

But Lo! The lake did not destroy them!
It purified their souls.
For the crucible refines us,
Melting, changing, restoring.

Two thirds of eternity's Angels
Watched as the Lake boiled and churned.
One by one the souls were fished out,
Cleansed and made anew.

In the end all had been saved,
Even Lucifer,
Who shed a tear and cried out:
"Forgive me Lord!"

And so the untold prophecy became true:
Just as Jesus saved us with his death,
So Satan the mastermind
Saved himself at God's request.

For God cannot betray his nature,
And Satan knew this well.
Alone and defeated facing his end,
He saved himself with prayer.

Condolences. I lost my dad, same age, same cause, last October. Hate to say it, but if you can, make sure the will is in order as that may prevent a bad situation from becoming worse.

Ty folks. sizone, my brother told me that my dad put his affairs in order. Also I have a will in which I specify that I'd like them to do everything possible to keep me alive. i'm questioning that. My dad went out in the same way he lived his life, with strength and dignity. He chose to be taken off of the life support to receive his reward in Heaven. He's there now.

We are blessed in our family because now we have a spiritual warrior, and a very intelligent and wise one at that, on our side. I can only imagine that by now he's met up with our other deceased family members who watch us and care for us.

Les
