Subject description: cant find certain values of pot
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

I'm new to this forum, so first off, hello! Very Happy

I am at planning stages of building a yusynth modular. I'm sourcing all the components before I start...
the parts I am having the most trouble with is the trimmers.
I can find trimmers but not with the correct values.

Examples of the values I cant find:
22k or 25k 10 turn trimmer
47k or 50k 10 turn trimmer
200k or 220k 10 turn trimmer

I would prefer to get them all from the same place or I will end up paying loads on shipping.
Does anyone know where I could get them? Uk would be preferred to keep shipping costs low.

sorry for being bit of a noob
cheers
ali

These are all available from Rapid here:

http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Resistors-Potentiometer/Preset-Potentiometers/3-frac12-8in-Multiturn-cermet-potentiometers/71494

These are the low cost TruOhm versions, but Rapid also stock Bourns and Vishay presets at reasonable prices. 25 turn is also just as good (if not better) than 10 turn.

You do have to be careful in picking the right pin layout though (I've bought "Spares" like this before as well).

Regards

Magman

thanks magman,

i might be missing something, but there are no 22k/25k, or 47k etc...
If i get larger value's wont I be decreasing my trimming range?

sorry again for being such a noob

cheers man

also having trouble finding reverse audio pots?
thanks

Most presets only have a +/- 10% tolerance anyway, so I have had no problems substituting 20K for 25K pots or 50K for 47K pots. If you hit the limits of the pot in actual use, you can always swap it for the next higher value, but with a 25 turn pot that would still give you a reasonable level of control. Sometimes you can adjust a corresponding resistor value on the circuit board to effect a similar change (some designs include a resistor along with the preset to set the range of control applied).

Also, I've just found a discount code for a 5% discount for Rapid for orders over £40 (Excluding VAT) till the end of September. Enter FACE79 when it asks for a discount code.

Anti Log or Reverse Log parts are apparently a little more hard to get hold of. On a Google search though, I did find a few suppliers in the UK, or you can try Digi-Key our Mouser in the US.

Good hunting

Regards

Magman

Ideal, thanks for clearing that up. I was going to use the closest values, but i wasnt sure if there was a supplier I was missing or somthing.

nice one for the rapid code. I always end up spending over £40! get the free delivery for over £30...then i get carried away!

will have a look for those reverse audio pots.

If anyone has a link it would be much appreciated!

thanks again Very Happy

Banzai stock reverse pots. They're based in Germany so the shipping isn't too bad.

I bought mine here

http://www.musikding.de/forums.html/cat/c100_rev-log-pots.html

also is good place if you want to buy MTOM style knobs.

The good thing of this site is that doesn't have minimum buy and you can pay with paypal.
