So, I'm starting to put things together to build a SN-voice. I'm looking into what would be the best/easiest way to put together a power supply. I was wondering if it would be difficult to make this work:

http://www.bgmicro.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=10735

I've seen some schematics for getting the negative voltage from the positive. Would something like that work in this situation? If not, can someone point me to what would be the best route?

Sure, may I recommend this power supply from Music from Outer Space.

I would also recommend the 'International "LINEAR" Power Supplies" from MP Jones ...

Hope this helps.

I am aware of the MFOS power supply but I guess I'm not entirely sure how to get the extra +5v.

I think the ps you linked to won't work because it looks to me like it is only +, not + & -. I think if you want to use that kind of supply you will need to build something like this:

http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/WALLWARTSUPPLY/WALLWARTSUPPLY.php

to get the -v.

I'm also not sure that you wouldn't need to change some values to run the sn voice on 12v instead of 15.

If you are building a board you got from State Machine the +5, is supplied from an on-board regulator so you don't need to supply it separately. If you're building it w/o the SMS board you could still get the 5v with a regulator on whatever board you are using.

I highly recommend checking out this thread on the muffwiggler forum, it's the route I went for my PS and I'm very happy with it:

Good luck,

Mark

Thanks for the props, Bill. Smile

I would still not describe myself as anything more than a rank n00b but I guess I am bit-by-bit learning to connect the dots.

Dan, nothing, it should work under +/- 12V also .. no further modification required ... I personally run mine with +/- 15 but have heard that folks are running them fine with 12V

Yup, thats it .......

I put an on-board 78L05 5V regulator so no external 5V is necessary. It will derive the 5V from the V+ (12 or 15) supply .....

Those International Power supplies are nice also that I pointed out. This way you can add a few more modules Wink

Woot! Got my board in the mail today. Unfortunately it will have to sit and wait until I finish my MFOS Mini. I'm building one of the wall wart PSUs for that and I'll probably just do the same for the SN-voice now that I know that the extra +5v is taken care of on the SN board.
