Sweet Rock'n roll:
Na na na na - Sweet rock’n roll
it was the savior of my soul
I will be rockin’ when I’m old
I will be rockin’ ‘til I’m cold
It will be rolling in my head
until the day when I am dead
Na na na na - Sweet rock’n roll
it was the very best for me
Na na na na - Sweet rock’n roll
You know it really sets me free
Sweet rock’n roll – it’s to good to be true
It lights me up - when I am blue
Na na na na - Sweet rock’n roll
I loved it right from the start
And ever since I’ve kept it close - to my heart
Na na na na Sweet Rock'n roll
Sweet as the sweetest girls
I wouldn't swap it – for diamonds and pearls
Na na na na - Sweet rock’n roll .......
Na na na na - Sweet rock’n roll ....... '' |

p.s. now you won't have to change your song lyrics, heh! |
Erm, surely the Moon is tidally locked to the Earth, so like you said earlier, it will always be in the same spot on the sky when you're on the Moon? The Earth rises in that video because it's shot from a vessel that is speeding away from the Moon.
No big deal though the rising of cellestial objects is a trick of the viewpoint anyway, so that kind of rise is as good a reason for poetry as anything.

Hello Antimon: Just to make it clear:
The earth-rise that could be witnessed from the surface of the Moon is quite unlike sunrises on Earth. Because the Moon is tidally locked with the Earth, one side of the Moon always faces toward Earth.
Interpretation of this fact would lead one to believe that the Earth's position is fixed on the lunar sky and no earth-rises can occur. However, the Moon librates slightly, which causes the Earth to draw a Lissajous figure on the sky. This figure fits inside a rectangle 15°48' wide and 13°20' high (in angular dimensions), while the angular diameter of the Earth as seen from Moon is only about 2°.
This means that earth-rises are visible near the edge of the Earth-observable surface of the Moon (about 20 % of the surface). Since a full libration cycle takes about 27 days, earth-rises are very slow, and it takes about 48 hours for Earth to clear its diameter.

Ah yes, I remember reading about that now - the Moons tidal lock wobbles a bit, making the Earth go up and down as seen from the Moon, is that it?
Ah, the moon...

Somewhere I've been...
Dark Down Here
Bottom of the barrel
The bitterest of beer
Best way of getting out
Aint always very clear
Mired in the muck
Aint it just my luck
Drowning in my fears
It's awful, awful dark down here
Awful dark down here
Underneath the bridge
Water over the damn
It's all been polluted
The past is such a sham
Bending over the barrel
Domestic or more feral
End seems ever near
It's awful, awful dark down here
Awful dark down here
Shadows having shadows
Everywhere a gallows
Hanging out on a limb..
Corner of awareness
Faintly in my sight
Promise of a rescue
Succumbing to my fright
Merely fete of the mind
Right was left behind
Cliffs are getting sheer
It's awful, awful dark down here
Awful dark down here
Feels like ever night
Could someone lend a light?
I could use a spot of cheer
It's awful, awful dark down here
Awful dark down here
It's awful, awful dark down here
Awful, awful dark, down here |

Awesome, Danno. Gave me chills.
Here are some lyrics I wrote that are very relevant to me.
Trust
I have not trusted
The goodness of man
For longer than I remember
I've stood in the darkness
In love with the night
My heart like snow in December
I wouldn't believe
Trust my own eyes
Proof of one man's kindness
I was sorely deceived
I never realised
I was stumbling in blindness
But I've taken a turn
And learned from the truth
Too much to stay in the dark
And I'll never again
Be so quick to spurn
A glimmer of hope in the dark
For all the wrong reasons
I've learned not to trust
For all the wrong reasons
That crumbled to dust
I'm not sure I can see
The visions in your mind
Or even if I would care
I just know that I feel
You're getting harder to find
And things are just going nowhere
I've refused to believe
That I could get used to
Getting a little respect
So into my life I'd weave
All kinds of lies about you
All kinds of foolish dreck
But I've taken a turn
And learned from the truth
Too much to stay in the dark
And I'll never again
Be so quick to spurn
A glimmer of hope in the dark
For all the wrong reasons
I've learned not to trust
For all the wrong reasons
That crumbled to dust |

Subject description: Farewell Song |
|
|
Ah, so that's what this thread's about, lyrics! Who'd a'guessed?
Interesting thread and interesting lyrics, really.
Here's the one that Max/MSP and I sang a capella at the start of my EM 2009 set. There's a banjo/guitar version posted from January 2008 at http://virb.com/dparson .
Farewell, music & lyrics copyrighted by Dale E. Parson, 2008.
1. The young ones are the worst of all.
They'll hit you just to watch you fall.
And leave you lying, damaged in the street.
But the old ones, they are worse than these.
They will cut you right behind the knees,
'cause they want to see you grovel at their feet.
So I guess I'm neither young nor old.
I'll take my place in neither fold.
And I will not run nor battle in their pack.
Just a honest speaking miscreant,
not a bottom feeding sycophant,
in a crowd that wants to stab you in the back.
CHORUS
Fairwell to things we must abandon,
fading lights and hollow, empty sounds.
The fire is in the sky, don't let another day go by.
The universe is waiting to be found.
2. When I was young the world was free,
magic spilled from every tree,
mysterious enchantments filled the streams.
I could lose myself in a bank of fog.
I could paddle off on a hollow log.
I could wander round in a forest of my dreams.
Then trouble started closing in.
The enchantments all became a sin,
as the Lilliputian monsters came to power.
They'll tie you down with thread so tight.
Run your life and claim the right,
to plan and rule your every waking hour.
CHORUS
3. Moving now, I'm on the road,
running from a hated load,
heading to the woods where I belong.
I'll pick a tune upon these strings,
find the words and start to sing,
raise my shining spirit in a song.
To those who'd try to hold me back,
stop me dead here in my tracks,
and set me to a task to take me down.
There are some things I'll do for pay,
but there are none I'll do today,
If you look for me I will not be around.
CHORUS _________________ When the stream is deep

Nice one Dale, and every word is true. As with all of the other lyrics, I recognize aspects of my own life experience in the lyrics. They'll cut you down just to see you fall - so true. Well done.

Thanks, Les. That was right after the once-great-to-work-for, now degenerate company I had worked for for 26.5 years sacked me, shortly after which Google Labs, where I had a very good interview, passed on me. The old ones and the young ones, respectively.
I was in a royally pissy mood around that time, and was thinking of writing an album's worth of post-age-fifty, kicked-out-for-aging punk-folk songs along those lines. Luckily my venom ran out. But among my few attempts at lyrics, those are about the most satisfactory to me, aesthetically.
Take care. _________________ When the stream is deep

My Sister Sue
My sister Sue
she's so frail - she's so pale
living in a scary tale
Her lips is painted black – and black is every single nail
She is a Goth – and black is every cloth - that she wear - and she's got long black hair
My sister Sue – she's got a few
nice tattoos – dark blue eyes and black suede shoes
She is a gothic girl
she's got a lot of rings and things – hangin’ - from her ears
My sister Sue - she looks so weak – she is so very bleak
running down upon - her chin, her cheek - she's got crystal tears
My sister Sue - I know for certain - when she's blue
she's in her room – behind black curtains
There in the gloom – in a big black chair
she sits and grooms and grooms and grooms her long black hair
she spends much time - to make it shine - to make it fair
My sister Sue
She's a witch – without a broom
her private room – it looks like doom
it's chaotic – but very Gothic
Black wax candles - in chandeliers
the Prince of Darkness - at you steers – from the wall
My sister Sue –- when she is blue - steers into - a crystal ball
My sister Sue – she's so idle
when she is blue – she's suicidal
She gave me the chills - one day she took some pills
Not only one or two - but she took quite a few
when she was sad and lonesome
My sister Sue – the medic crew came to her rescue
When she was there - at the intensive care
she was so bleak - she me did scare
I was afraid – that she would fade - away and disappear
My sister Sue
she is a little bit askew
She can be nice - she can funny
She can surprise - when she needs money
then she is sweet as honey
My sister Sue – if she is blue – or if shes got the flu
or if she's got the menses
I do try hard to please her – I really do try not to tease her
- make no offenses
cause if I do – my sister Sue – then she can lose her senses
My sister Sue
sometimes she's too good to be true
sometimes she drives me to despair
so much is crystal clear
She's no saint - oh, no she ain't – that's what she's not
She is a goth – and black is every cloth that she wear
and she's got long black hair |

For those that don't live in the States, there is a day in our retailer's lives that is almost HOLY. Black Friday. The day after our Thanksgiving Holiday is the biggest shopping day in the United States.
Frenzy does not come near to describing the behavior of people on this day.
Last year, an employee of Walmart, one of our largest stores, was trampled to death during the rush for one of these sales...
Combat Shopping
Com-bat shopping
Gotta risk ya life…ya wanna get the goods
Com-bat shopping
Gotta buy it on attack…everybody should
Driving down the road, dodging traffic’s in a jam
Five a.m. you’re up with them to bargain what you can
Sweet old lady cuts you off just smiling as she goes
You just got a lesson in what everybody knows
Com-bat shopping
Gotta risk ya life…ya wanna get the goods
Com-bat shopping
Gotta buy it on attack…everybody should
Com-bat shopping
If ya didn’t buy it now then you never would
Com-bat shopping
Winning’s understood
In the store, you grab for more, finding what you need
Same old lady snatches it, she’s laughing in her greed
Off she goes to pay she knows she’s won another test
You just got a wake up call from one of shopping’s best
Com-bat shopping
Gotta risk ya life…ya wanna get the goods
Com-bat shopping
Gotta buy it on attack…everybody should
Com-bat shopping
If ya didn’t buy it now then you never would
Com-bat shopping
Winning’s understood

Waypoint
You thought you had arrived
Dreams are just contrived
Delusions are a bribe for going along
It seemed like it was cool
Players weighing fools
Confusion is the price for being wrong
With faux oil they doth anoint
We all just gotta get outa this joint
Welcome to waypoint
The sound of echoed fate
Arriving just too late
It proliferates the knowing nods
Whispers gather crowds
The din murmured aloud
Motions of survival we now plod
With all the robots they appoint
We all just gotta get outa this joint
Welcome to waypoint
Spark between the gap
Fly in the Venus trap
Chinese finger puzzle is the pull
Leader’s loss a sale
Cheater boss betrayal
China shop a crop of dancing bull
You hoped it could be true
That they would value you
Should expect below that disappointment
Fault festers like a sore
Salt the earth there more
Smothering dissent with system ointment
With that oil they doth anoint
We all just gotta get outa this joint
Welcome to waypoint
Woo…Hoo...Just passing through
The train of try it again…is leaving from waypoint
…All aboard?? |

Fishbowl Pantomime
All the weird things that we see
They forget our view is always free
When they look we just go slip
Behind the rocks and treasure ships
Bubbles drift up through the brine
Bottom feeders doing time
Sharks the larks of the bottom line
Doing the fishbowl pantomime
They think that we didn’t see mistakes
Feed us their little fishy flakes
Chase us round with know it all nets
Dredge up the muck, say it’s for best
Bubbles help us keep the time
Life is better off of the line
The bigger picture seems divine
Doing the fishbowl pantomime
When they visit…pointing hands
Couldn’t hear us, nor understand
The joy of swimming in circles…
They say that we are lacking fun
Bring Betas, Piranhas, and maybe some
Snapping Turtles…
But sound is clearer under wet
We haven’t stopped our listening yet
Someday in our mistaken greed
We’ll even nip the hand that feeds
Bubbles lazy make their climb
The world so dry, ethereal grinds
We hang around ‘till feeding time
Doing the fishbowl pantomime
The filtered water woo’s the whine
Doing our fishbowl pantomime

Galactic Spastic Drastic Disgrace
When all your thinking gets too contrival
Excused, your drinking all about survival
What you can’t have is all you ever chase…
It’s a galactic, spastic, drastic…disgrace
Friends are only close so they can use ya
Defenders ending up as your accusers
The earth you salt has such a bitter taste…
It’s a galactic, spastic, drastic…disgrace
The holes you will find are just from worms
To get there they just squirm, and eat their way
Consumers it is rumored set the terms
So cheap, it’s only you on sale today
When all your dreams concentric swirling mist
Truth is but a cosmic clenching fist
Spread your bread a jam of thick malaise…
It’s a galactic, spastic, drastic…disgrace

Righteousness Pyre
When injustices lead to disgust
Spontaneously, good people combust
Indignance beginning to burn
Till the wrong and ill wind has been turned
And it’s principle fueling the flame
Some would mistake it for blame
Heaping the tomes of the liar
On righteousness’ pyre
Watching in awe as the flame’s growing higher
Of righteousness’ pyre
There are times the machine grows corrupt
And though dangerous, heroes stand up
Take on their shoulders the weight
And all of the old ones new hate
And as harbingers herald the change
Main street may mock them as strange
Heaping their logs of desire
On righteousness’ pyre
Watching in awe as the flame’s growing higher
Of righteousness’ pyre
Why do you look so surprised?
Did you think it would all stay disguised?
Did you think it would never come out
That old way of the south?
You cherished your land of the free
Denied the black man it was he
Turned a blind eye to their evident cries
Then said there was nothin’ to see
The truth, no respecter of color
Is shared when our neighbors are brothers
And our brother is still just a man
When heroically, he takes up the stand
That nowhere, ever, is there a place
For divisions born out of race
Burning the body denier
On righteousness’ pyre
Watching in awe as the flame’s growing higher
Of righteousness’ pyre
Gathered we sing a new song
Burning the old…body of wrong
Our chorus, we hope, will inspire
This righteousness’ pyre
Our righteousness’ pyre
Righteousness’ pyre |

Living Will Kill You
Tears you would never cry,
Lies you would never tell
Hiding it serves you well,
Until you become too sly
Dry is the soul of hate,
Fate is the price of life
Tangled the knot it ties,
Dangled upon its weight
Though giving may thrill you
Know that it will do
It only goes through to
Living will kill you
Yeah, living will kill you
Living will kill you
Dreams you would never share,
Cares you would always hide
Eaten alive from the inside,
Beside yourself day unto day
Wet is the tissue of tears,
Fear is the money of love
Spent when the pushers get shoved,
Relentlessly having their way
Though giving may chill you
Know what it will do
It only goes through to
Living will kill you
Yeah, living will kill you
Living will kill you
Born you are to die
Hate the cost of love
Fated still to try
The cut above
A cut above
Only truth can lie
Within the heart of pain
Chilling is the chide
Of winter’s rain
Cold winter’s stain
Though living may will you
Know what it will do
It only goes through too
Living will kill you
Oh, Living will kill you
Yeah, living will kill you |

Days Of Character
The wind blows cold, young dogs, more bold
Walls gleam a neon writ
Faces grow blank, weak fish in the tank
Sharks to blood in it
Dragging on…Agonizing Dawn
Days of character
Holding your own, role as a stone
Days of character
Such evident proof, the naked truth
Wish it would wear clothes
Mistaken read, a common misdeed
Would, it were, one of those
Confidence gone, reality’s brawn
Days of character
Hold as your own, counsel of stone
Days of character
It’s all subliminal atrophy
You got the work-place leprosy
The friendly act unmasked
Keeping the head down
Acute to the sounds
Smelling the grindstone task
No winning to claim, the end is the game
A move in the dance to the draw
Argue yourself as the barrister
Days of character
Days of character
Days of character |

System Attic
The system will not change, it only changes clothes
Patience is a stage, seeming in repose
Rail what you despise, reprise it for a cause
Blindly keep your faith, you can make it pause
And it marches on
And it carries on
And it coldly stores your static
In the system attic
The system knows its own, protection for the child
Tomorrows knowledge grown in nano-gathered files
The crier in the night, fighting to be heard
Blindly, no one listens to the words
And much to its relief
The price of your belief
You’re classified, and labeled a fanatic
In the system attic
In the system attic
So soon now you will be, some future’s history
Encrusted dusty faded discovery…
A museum piece delight, example of pure right
To say your piece and be stored out of sight
The system is the height, epitome of will
Antithetic right to the ones it kills
Point out all its flaws, pause to give rebuke
Never important, never heard you, there’s its truth
Even though it’s wrong
It will soldier on
Its survival is it’s autocratic
In the system attic
In the system attic
In the system attic |
