Subject description: Featuring creations from electro-music -1st & 3rd Tues. at 2200 GMT
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Inventor's Inventions is a show about the creations of myself and others here at electro-music.com It will broadcast on our radio station on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 22:00 GMT. This show is purposely very technical in nature and the intended audience is people who are familiar with electronic music technology.

In an audio demonstration and lecture style, I will play music generated by interesting analog and digital circuits and describe lots of technical details about the circuits. There will be some interaction with the people in the chatroom via question and answer segments. I will also post web links to the chatroom and describe verbally how to get to those links if you are not in the chatroom.

Although I will attempt to create new material every two weeks, I do plan to repeat material especially for projects that are evolving as my electro-music friends and I develop them together. I also plan to feature inventions and creations from other people who are members of electro-music.com.

Many of the items discussed are available for purchase from the electro-music.com store or from the individual inventors who sell their own products. So if you like what you hear you can usually get that item for your own use.

Here is the recording of the first Inventor's Inventions show. It features the Karplus Strong string synthesis circuit prototype that I developed and tested, along with lots of help from my electro-music friends. The prototype played audio through my guitar amp for the duration of the show and I discussed just about every technical detail that I know about it. Enjoy!

The second Inventor's Inventions show was just OK, not so great. That's because of the setup that I have here for broadcasting. I was sending my voice through the Karplus Strong prototype board, which made me sound like I was talking through a long tube or something weird like that.

But anyway I was able to demonstrate the software ChucK Boolean Sequencer controlling the Karplus Strong prototype to create actual songs, not just a constant rhythm like in the first show. I also ran out of things to say and just jammed on the instruments for the latter part of the show.

If you want to hear a better show, I'd suggest the first show or a later show which had (and will have) better production technique. I plan to cover material from both the first and second shows on the third show. Oh well, you win some you lose some. Enjoy.

This third show turned out much better than the second show. I did a lot of talking and we walked through the Boolean Sequencer schematic step-by-step. I also played a few Boolean Sequencer songs that were made with the ChucK programming language. This one is worth a listen.

This show was very good and a lot of fun to do. In it I talk about my patent royalty check, new computer, the LoonyBoard 1, dio's board, some other inventions and the radio schedule. Definitely worth a listen as it covers a full variety of inventions related to electro-music.

My sincerest apologies to Les, and our fan base, for not being available for the Interview. Work sent me around the Island that evening and was not able to make it to my studio in time for the show. Such as the case sometimes with "Voluntary" radio.

Again, my apologies and if Les will have me on at a later time to chat, I would be more than happy to do so. Wink

Thanks
Bill

Bill, you're OK! We were so worried about you! We thought something might have happened...

If you're around tonight we can do an interview. If not, then next show would be ok.

To be honest, I thought the show kind of sucked compared to other shows. That's because I'm still figuring out the audio routing on the new Mac mini and I got a feedback loop which kind of messed things up. But what the hey, at least I got a chance to demo the new program...

Yes Dave, tonight I will be featuring a 30 minute recording of Klee music from your Scrogg Productions studio! There will also be some coverage of wmonk's new circuit board project, and then I might jam with my Karplus Strong software a little bit. Should be a good show!

By popular demand in the chatroom, the next Inventor's Inventions show will feature a beginner's class in constructing Lunetta circuits using the breadboard technique. See the photo below for the completed circuit.

I will get really detailed and talk about all kinds of obvious stuff that might not be obvious to beginners, or whatever that means, heh. People in the chat will be welcome to ask questions and make comments for me to read on the show.

I like the sound of this Quad Osc Lunetta circuit, it can make some freaky noises for a two-chip dealie. You'll enjoy building it too so get your pad and pen ready to take notes so you can do the build yourself!

I thought it might be cool to add a stereo output to the circuit and send it into my Mac for processing by ChucK. Then I wrote the attached ChucK program and made the attached demo of the total system in action. It's really freaky man!
