I was in my brother's swimming pool today, standing shoulder-deep by the side when I saw this tiny little ant. It was busily zig-zagging around along the rough concrete, getting close to the edge. When it reached the edge, I expected it to walk on the vertical surface as ants do. Instead, the ant fell in the pool!

For some reason it occurred to me that watching this ant was like God watching me as I busily struggled through life before creating my own deathly catastrophe. In a moment of compassion I scooped up the ant in my cupped hand and splashed it back upon the concrete.

It was dazed and confused, but the ant quickly shook off the water and struggled it's way to freedom. The only problem was it headed straight for the edge of the pool again! I thought to myself: "If you fall in again, I'm not saving you a second time."

Well, wouldn't you know it, that little ant went straight to the edge and fell in again! Shocked, I laughed and then splashed the ant away from me to meet it's demise.

I just hope that God is more patient than I am...

Les

p.s. Another interesting parallel is that during this calamity the ant actualy walked on water...

Maybe it's time for a new idiom: As stubborn as an ant.

I go back and forth between capturing bugs inside my house and freeing them, and saying "I've told you people to stay OUT!" and squishing them. Laughing

Leads me to believe that...

Walking on water isn't always a sign of a superior being.

Determination can be a bad thing.

Bigger rules.

Interesting! (the computer modeling part that is)

Oh, there are male witches, too.

The dude in question probably simply understood quantum mechanics and was able to grasp the probability linkages between his steps and the surface of the water. Or maybe he knew stuff about surface tension and atomic density that nobody else knew at the time.

Yeah that's an astounding claim! I'm not saying it's false, but I'm surprised to see it in such a casual remark.

I suspect that they are talking about the consciousness of your typical academic researcher, an infinite number of which could indeed fit onto the head of a pin.

For those whose heads are not firmly inserted into their own rectums, I suspect that the concept of consciousness is likely to be a bit bigger. xxsun banana

I confess that I didn't find that particularly credible or even intelligible.
