So I'd like to buy a book (or 3) that might help me learn how to design synthesizer circuits and understand how circuits work a little better. Right now I have fun building other folks stuff - and I can grasp simple CMOS stuff - but I'd like to have a better understanding of common synth circuit fodder.
What books do you guys recommend? Of the Thomas Henry stuff is Build a Better Music Synthesizer the best bet? An Analog Synthesizer for the 21st Century sounds like maybe it's more just a collection of schematics than a learning tool. (Not to play down the usefulness of his schematics!)
What about the Barry Klein book? I'm trying to avoid simple 'cookbooks' especially if they're primarily based around custom IC's like CEM/SSM. I'd love to learn how op-amps can be used etc..
Are there any other books out there that might be worth looking into?
Thanks! |

Other than the internet all you need is Electronotes but it costs 300 bucks. Don Lancaster's cookbooks are great and inexpensive. Barry Klein's book is worth having too. _________________ Youtube!

is the Musical Engineer's Handbook a good place to start w/ electronotes?
I can't really do the whole $300 package right now. . . |

absolutely spot on, for learning about the rational behind the designs. you might also want to spring for the preferred circuits, which gives completed designs based on the theory presented in the Handbook.
still, the everything pkg is the best $300 i ever spent on sdiy... was must curled up with one of those big notebooks last night, just browsing.
