Voice area vs Effects area |
|
|
Is it ok to use effx(comp, rev, chorus) in the voice area instead of effx area?. Does it take too much dsp or should I use all the effx in the Effx area I'm too lasy to put another input/output modules in effx area. |

It makes no difference at all if your patch is monophonic. And there are no rules, but a verb takes close to 30% of your total dsp for a slot. If you want to maximise voices in poly mode, use the FX area. Sometimes putting stuff in the ‘wrong’ place creates nice accidents though.

It realy depends on what you are trying to accomplish. For some things it will not matter that much, for example if you put a reverb as your final stage in the sound then it shouldn´t realy matter and it would be more cpu efficient to put it in the effects section. For other things like overdrive it will matter a lot. All waveshapers depend on the input volume and baring extremely rare cases mixing multiple voices will lead to more volume and so a larger amount of waveshaping. Unless you are sure of what you are doing and have a good reason I think you should put your compressor in the fx section. Choruses have a internal lfo and so using them in the voice section will lead to having as many lfo´s as you have voices, that means the effect will be quite different depending on your choice.
Aesthetically it will also depend on what your polyphonic patch is meant to express. Using a lot of modules in the effects section will lead to a more unified sound that will sound more like it´s one instrument playing chords while only using the voice section might sound more like it´s several instruments playing monophonic lines together. _________________ Kassen |
