I've made an MP3 of my set to post up, but the file size is 66.8 MB, and (if I'm reading my profile correctly) my attachment quota on the forum is 20 MB. Can I get that raised?

I finally got around to listening to it, not too many clinkers, so I reckon I'd better post it.

Starts off with Scrabble-to-MIDI with tones generated via the javax.sound.midi library. I started finger picking my Godin xtsa midi guitar about 10 minutes into the game after I had enough Scrabble words to generate a usable rhythm section. Thin processing with a few GR-33 guitar synth effects and Ableton Live delays on the guitar in places, used Live as the mixer as well.

No technical glitches, happily, although I find I get more fumble fingered when I have to take my hands off the strings too often. Good excuse!

OOPS, I've hit my upload limit, no can do! Shall I do some house cleaning, or is an upped limit a reasonable request? I have about 15Mbyte of space left, and this file needs 30. Thanks.

EDIT: thanks Jan! Performance file attached.

Thanks again, Jan! By the way, is the chat log from the event posted somewhere? The missed parts are often a fun read.

Can do ... ok .. done ... http://bluehell.electro-music.com/nye/ and go to ChatLog there, the Schedule is also still up ... times in the chatlog are GMT+1, eg offset one hour from (later than) the GMT times in the schedule.

I am dumping the audio and video now.

I got 44.1KHz 16 bit edcast files (direct to radio.electro-music)(see below on what was used and where), I got a 48KHz 24 bit from the DAT (4 tracks, 2 internal mikes at 90 degrees and 2 sm58's 6 foot high at left and right). Two cameras in stereo. I would say plenty of waves there to re-mix and pull something out. Wink

One camera dumped now, it's in mts h.264 at widescreen, the other is waiting as I started the conversion to mp3 on it already too. I did dump the waves now.
The other camera will be in the same format. I think all 4 waves (left and right) will be at 48KHz at 24 bit too.

So the stuff line up :
Dale

Hardware
DSI Poly Evolver, DSI Special Edition Prophet '08, KORG Extreme (88 key version), KORG MS2000, Alesis ION and Roland JP8000. Pedals and such on some. (using some custom patches there here and there on everything)
Les Paul with gr-3 and it's Roland GR-20.
Cymbals (Sabian pros)
Software
FM8, MMV and Line 6 Gearbox/DI

Lorraine

Yamaha S-80, roto toms, floor tom, cow bell and congas.

Doug Moon

Les Paul and Fender amp. simple and sweet

I used a KSM-27 Shure mike to send to radio.electro-music (placed center). A pair of QSC HPR-153i supplied the main sound out. I am sure the BX8a's found a bit of the way into the mix too as I had them on near me too. Lorraine had her own sm58 beta, her congas and roto toms a sm58 too. No shortage of mikes here.

The win2k system feed the edcast to radio.electro-music. The winxp box did the FM8, MMV and Gear Box. Signal flow was pretty much, synths to sub mixer (Rolls RM203)(I re-routed all of them for this event to one of the two I had to make it easier for me to deal with), that and other mikes feed into the 20 channel Behringer Euro-Rack). The out of all of that into the win2k system via a motu 24i. The Personus Firebox did the sound out from the XP box. All rates at max for clean sound.

I am thinking I should be able to pull off a 5.1 mix out of this too. I will repost a link here off one of my web sites as I am sure it's going to be large on file size. I caught some limits on file sizes on the other posts already.

If the other guests had arrived or shown up at least, I could have hit some of the other table top synths here and reaktor. As it was, I was traveling sometimes between the two three tier stands. As some will point out, it was more then enough already Dale ... Rolling Eyes

I did want another synth (Oasis), guitar, bass and pedal steel in. Oh well ...

dale

update here is the link to get the mp3
http://www.inquisitorbetrayer.com/radio.electro-music/
Lorraine has pneumonia among other things going on too so her voice, which is normaly soft anyway, is a bit more so.

Thanks, Jan! I always enjoy reading down through what I missed in the chat. I keep the stream projecting when I go downstairs, but I miss good chunks of the chat.

Love it! My favourite part came in around 20 or 25 minutes. I had to turn it down in the middle where it got either noisy or too high-freq-ish, I coudn't tell which.

It's a DIY unit built into a cookie tin by Damon Mar. Not being a DIY builder myself, I'm pretty ignorant about specific details of the design and fabrication, but I can explain the basic functions of the synth from an end-user's point of view.

There are four square-wave oscillators. Each has a course frequency pot (the top row of pots) and a mix level pot (the lower row). These four oscillators can optionally be sync'ed in pairs (the 2nd and 5th switches along the bottom).

Each of the oscillators can be set (using the other four switches in that bottom row) to respond to frequency modulation from light sensors (the four small circles along the bottom, which may be a little hard to see in the pics).

Each osc also has an indicator light above its control pots. My inference from using the unit is that the lights are triggered at the cycle rate of the oscillators, though I may be wrong on that point.

Then there's a master volume pot towards the bottom, and across the top are the power input, the master power switch, and the signal output jack.

Inside the tin there's a 9v battery jack (how it's currently being powered) and plenty of open space -- which I have to admit I've not yet used to store any actual cookies or post-gig snacks. Laughing

Just listened to EmeraldAdrift's cookie can set. Wonderfully organic and edgy. I especially like the last half when some of those synths start percolating it. The dissonant celeste was very effective.
