Parkville, Mo. is actually a small picturesque little town on the northwestern edge of Kansas City on the Missouri River. Interstate 29/Hwy 71 defines the eastern side of the town and lots of hotels and restaurants are located there. Tom Watson Parkway, which runs thru the town, also has restaurants and hotels as well. Parkville is quite close and just south of the KC International Airport as well.
As far as vegan food specifically, that could be an issue. I don't recall seeing any vegetarian or vegan restaurants (ive been a vegetarian for sometime until recently). However, Kevin would know better than myself. I suppose the option to make your own food in the hotel might be the best in that situation, or a trip into Kansas City would prove worthy.
Last year I stayed at a Motel 6 for around $50 a night. It was fine, security was good, and there were no worries. But there are several other hotels with varying degrees of comfort. Most hotels are no more than a 10 to 15 minute drive to the location of the festival.
KC Area Map Here
The festival site itself is very relaxed and mellow... with virtually no threat of crime imo. It is essentially a very nice community building in combination with a great swimming pool in a residential neighborhood. It is very family friendly, surrounded by trees, and an overlook of the Missouri River and the Kansas City skyline.
Also, if you have the time in your trip... folks might want to visit the Nelson Atkins Art Museum and try some of the world famous KC Barbeque at some local establishment. _________________ ElectroCasa |

Vegan food near Parkville |
|
|
In Parkville, there is a Mediteranean restaraunt (Cafe Cedar) that has vegetarian items on the menu. There are nearby Thai and Malaysian restaraunts that have vegetarian items, also.
I'll see if there are any restaraunts that cater exclusively to vegans.
Hope this helps! _________________ -- Kevin

Thanks, Shane and Kevin. I wouldn't NOT go over a dearth of vegan-friendly restaurants. It's just nice to know for logistics.
For now, I'll have to wait and see. I hope it's ok to sign up shortly beforehand if I'm able to go. It'd be a 2-day road trip for me, as I'd probably bring a synth or two, I'm deathly afraid of planes, and I'm not taking my synths on the train. |

Gaithersburg, Maryland. So, yeah, a 2-day road trip, if I'm able to afford to go. |

audiodef, you can forget about any food-related issues as I'm also a vegan (and local...)! I'll be sure to bring plenty of snacks for the weekend, and we can try to get you to some good local joints as well.
Kevin &/or Shane, do you guys have any specific plans for the diy workshop yet? I'd love to help out if you need anything! I've been working just such an idea for a while now, so it would be cool to do it at the kc electro festival! _________________ www.soundcloud.com/adamon |

I think any kind of practical workshop would be a real plus -- particularly if you can demonstrate any tools or techniques:
Breadboarding
Soldering
Panel design software
Panel building (I'm working on this myself)
Parts sources
... anything else that you can think of
At the moment, I should have some new DIY stuff to bring... a Klee Sequencer, the MPS, and a MFOS pitch quantizer. If the festival were to happen tomorrow, I'd only have a few bags of parts and PCBs. Hopefully I'll have it put together and working by July! _________________ -- Kevin

Kevin, I'm glad to hear you've got some new stuff in the works! I'm sure the klee sequencer will be a fun project (I've been wanting to get one going for a while now...). Let me know if you need any help with the panels for your projects (I have access to a machine shop); a mill can be really helpful if you're going to go with sliders for the sequencer.
Those are great ideas for a workshop presenting diy related things! I've been wanting to do a building workshop for a while, but it could be hard to fund it, so just demonstrating things makes more sense for something like this! _________________ www.soundcloud.com/adamon |

Hey, for anyone unable to be there physically, will there be any online collaborations or shows like we do on EM? |

I'm really looking forward to this. I regret having missed last year. I'm debating driving or flying. I'm not too keen on putting my G2X in baggage.
Is there someone locally with a G2X that I could borrow for my performance? _________________ --Howard

Possible Participation? |

Greetings Sonic Explorers,
Charles Rice Goff III here. What are the requirements for participation in your July festival? I've been doing experimental productions for over 30 years. I'm thinking that if I joined in this event that I would do something like this:

Best wishes,

requirements are essentially experimental, electro-acoustic, or electronic music. i like your tunes on archive. we would love to have you at the festival. Great to see more people from the KC area picking up on this.
please refer to the first post in the thread for the basic info. it is a free event. if you are interested in playing just let me know here in this thread or send me a "pm" (private message) on this board.
thanks for your interest!
