I've always wondered how you could use an analog computer in a modular setup. Would you use it mostly as a CV generator/processor?
It would be cool to have a VU meter in there too.

It is very simple, tho I really should make sure it works before saying that.
one good example of using an analogue computer with a synth is Dan Slater's Chaotic Sound Synthesis, you can see the 1st page here
It was common to have voltmeters on analogue computers, if I built this into a larger case it would have one.

Seconded. I was planning on building an analogue computer anyway - this would simplify matters a bit!

no worries, once tested I intend to redesign the PCB to make it smaller (=cheaper) and then will do a larger run. Also considering getting panels made to suit the pactec case.
cheers

And you can see a little video on my blog: woodymonk.blogspot.com It was streamed live to the people in the chat with my phone, so not the best sounds, but still nice Smile

Finally finished my first module, an ENS-76/CGS style VCO, nothing to look at compared to some of the amazing stuff in here, but apart from one slightly off centre socket I'm happy with it.

I had a feeling we'd been doing the same homework!

Quad Bass ++ (Plus Lunetta)
Thomas Henry Quad Bass ++ board with Lunetta type counters/dividers/logic.
Logic included is a 4094 8 stage shift register, three 40106 clocks, 4024 divider, 4015 4 stage shift register, two XOR gates, a Divide by2/3/4/5/6/7/8 4017 circuit (a section of the CGS pulse divider), and two 4 input R/2R ladders for generating CV's. Iy uses mains power, the drum voices have individual and summed outputs and manual triggers. Banana and 1/4 inch so it'll play well with my Lunetta or modular.

I just finished a couple hours ago - Have not decided if I'll dress it up any more or not. (ie wood sides) Maybe too many colors Embarassed of jacks and knobs... That may change too.

As I learn how to use it I'll make a vid or audio clip.

bruce
EDIT to add clip & comment -
Obviously I was going for the Headley Grange vibe on the recording....

I'm done with phase 1 of my modular named "Grendel" (ugly, but mean as hell)

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

Four VCOs, Two VCAs, Moog clone/Synthacon/MFOS 4 pole LP filters, 2 custom ADSRs, 3 LFOs, Rebote Delay, Knick Knacks here and there.

The "cabinet" is 100% Home Depot which is made up of oak planks (aisle 32), plexiglass front panels, 6 layers of black paint. To mount the panels, I used aluminum L strips which were screwed on to the top and bottom planks. The L strips were then threaded for 8/32 screw size. I'm adding another tier in the summer.

PostPosted: Tue Mar 16, 2010 5:54 pm    Post subject: New Clock Divider, Boolean Logic, and Schmitt Trigger module Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

I completed the final troubleshooting on the Yusynth Boolean Logic and so this module is now up and running.

This module represents some "firsts" for me. All three PCBs are homemade -- the first three I've ever made.

The Schmitt Trigger circuit board is my own design -- nothing overly complicated but a chance for me to acquaint myself with Eagle software. The other boards are Yusynth designs.

The Schmitt trigger's output produces a trigger when both inputs go "high" and does not produce additional triggers until both inputs go low. Thus, I can delay the start of a note until a clock trigger and, once the trigger is received, suppress additional triggers until the note is lifted (and the gate goes back to zero).

I'm really having a lot of fun building new "stuff"!

thanks for the laurels. however i will accept your comment as related to the hardware only, not for the circuits. Laughing

anyways, the hardest part for me was to find sockets, switches and potentiometers that matched in height (so consequently sockets and potentiometers are ordered directly from manufacturers in asia).

fonik- great job on those! I am making the transition to SMD for my modules as well... at least partially. it gets hard to squeeze everything behind these little panels Smile

This evening I finished my 2nd MPS. I revised my front panel a bit -- I will likely redo the panel on the first MPS at some point... for now I'll just leave it.

Below is a pic of my latest modules that are temporarily housed in an old 11 module cabinet. The newest MPS is on left.

The only module that I have started and not finished is the Klee Sequencer. It has a larger panel and I'm still working out details of the design.

However... I couldn't resist... and I ordered about half a dozen CGS PCBs. I can see the instrument doubling in size over the next year or two.

I just gotta re-emphasize my astonishment at what fonik has revealed to us here. It's truly a whole new synth format. Noicely done fonik!
