So I've found the problem with the first delay, the BS170 is faulty so that'll get replaced. However, the second delay isn't responding either, there is just a constant ~6.5 volts at the slew output. Otherwise no response... will I just replace all the transistors/FETs and hope for the best? Are there alternative to the BS170/250 seeing as I don't have any lying around?
Thanks,
A

If you have a constant 6.5V t the output this means that the main capacitor is at full charge. There may be at least three possible causes, either there is a short cut with the positive rail or the BS250 is dead or it is not polarized correctly. There you can check what's happening on the collector of Q5, normally when applying 0V at the GATE input you should measure something like a voltage greater than 10V on the collector pin, and when you apply a gate signal (>5V) you should get something close to 0V. If this is not the case Q5 is probably dead.

Hi Yves, thanks for the pointers. Turned out that a bs170 was dead on one delay, a bs250 was dead on the other and one of the 547's had a HFE reading of 22(!). What were the chances?
As ever, this is a cool little module and I can already think of twenty things to do with it... cheers,
A

Gee! Three components dead on the same PCB that's not usual for a freshly assembled module. Were these trannies salvaged from older gear or did they come from the shop-shelf ?

Great to know it works now Wink

Well, the 7555 gives me a lot of headaches. When I built the ADSRs half
of the chips where faulty, so I bought some replcements at another shop
and I got some faulty ones there too. And I'm very carefull with the handling
of semiconductors.

I order my components from internet shops and it is very rare that I have a faulty component.

I buy from local shops for various reasons.
First, I don't want to wait for the shipment (haha).
Second, I don't want to pay for the shipment, usually the shipment to Argentina
costs more than the order I want to make.
Third, it's very common that shipments mysteriously get lost in the custom house.
Fourth, if I buy outside Argentina, I have to pick up the shipment at the custom
house, and I have to spend more than half of a day to do that (travel, burocracy, etc).
Fifht, the local shop is an old shop, so I found rare or discontinued parts at
cheap price very often (CA3080 for u$1, or MN3007 for u$4).
And usually I don't have problems with the components, the case of the
7555 was a rare one, and sometimes they don't have the specific brand I
want, or they don't discriminate transistors by hfe, so I have to buy a bunch
and see what they give me. But in general terms it's easier and cheaper than
ordering from internet.

Are you in BA? If so where is your shop so I can find it next time we visit. We normally stay with my wife's cousin near BelgranoR station.

Hi Stephen:
I'm in Ramos Mejia, outside Buenos Aires City, in the west part of Gran Buenos Aires.
The shop I'm talking about is in Liniers (is called Electronica Liniers), and is
in the west end of Buenos Aires City, isn't near Belgrano.
If you like, next time you are in Buenos Aires, we could meet and I get you to
the shop. We could have a beer too Wink
