Buchla clone?

The unique Buchla 249e dual arbitrary function generator looks like it has a huge number of features. Just one is the ability to set a % probability of skipping the next step.
This patch (load in Slot A) duplicates this, using control sequencers.
It could be extended to allow additional modulation of probability, or maybe instead of skipping a step, an arbitrary step could be conditionally branched to.

a nice surprise!... haven't gotten to try it, yet... the 'source of uncertainty' module looks pretty easily reproduceable on a G2, too... wanna have a go at it ian? Wink

Source of uncertainty? Not sure I want to do that one Smile

I just updated the original though, variation 1 is as before but variation 2 has the twostep value changed to -8 for a one step forward, two steps back effect. More interesting for some reason.

Back and forth is a very interesting musical effect. I think it is essential for a step sequencer to do this. (I think I might have said this somewhere before.) Shocked

There are interesting effects you can get if you have a control bit for the rwd/rev control. For example, put a square wave in there that is not synchronized with the clock. (If it is synchornized, you get repeating patterns.) Set it to 50% duty cycle and you'll get a 50/50 probability of fwd or rev. Change the pulse with and you can increase the probability of it going forward or backwards with a single knob. Playing this knob is satisfying. Very Happy
