Leave off the sync and sloppy sawtooth output if you just want a 1ms pulse wave. I'd suggest running it through frequency dividers for a better square.

Hey thanks HEAPS for posting this! I've just been mucking around with some 4093's... this will be my next module. What's sloppy about the sawtooth? I guess I shall have to breadboard this and find out! I'm sure this will be a popular posting! Very Happy

It needs a buffer if you want it to be a 'perfect' looking sawtooth.

nice design synthmonger, it reminds me of the WSG oscilators. Ill try it out on the breadboard next week, thanks for posting it.

Hmmm... not working yet. Am I right in assuming I'll get no sound until I have something hooked up to the CV? I won't hear an oscillation until I have an input there? This is the first VCO I am trying to make, so apologies if the answer is obvious or I am doing something wrong. Also, why is there mentioned a low value cap, or omit? Surely it wouldn't oscillate without a cap would it?

ok getting some sound now. I guess the real issue here is that I don't really understand this VCO concept. Not sure what it has supposed to do. Embarassed That's ok, I'll just have to do a bit of research. At least I'm getting some noise out of it....

OK, Think I get it now! The tone is changing depending on the voltage being fed to the cv!!! Shit I'm stupid sometimes!!! Laughing I had the cv hooked up to the (+) rail just for a test... then I put a random resistor in between, and the tone changed. Another resistor at random gave a different tone again. So, what I'm thinking is the output from an R2R ladder with various outputs feeding the R2R, hooking the R2R output to CV in of the VCO..... Might try that. All this VCA VCO R2R RIP VD KGB CIA shit gets a bit confusing for my battered old brain!

If you have a potentiometer hooked up like it is in the schematic you'll get audio on either pins 1 or 2. The potentiometer acts as a voltage divider so you'll be able to sweep a few octaves. The CV input is just for additional modulation, you can add more by copying the CV input too.

Don't feed it negative voltages or anything above the supply voltage or you'll risk frying the chip.

HA HA! Thanks for the replies! White coat? Oh... you must mean my straightjacket! Laughing

I'm going to beadboard this up again... I was a bit messy first time around. I'll get a R2R feeding the CV input. Be back later... have to have a little lay down in my padded cell for a while... just got back from my walk to town for an IC buying spree.... Wink
