A MIDI-controlled key quantizer |
|
|
After doing much work with arpeggiations, key quantization, and the like over the last few days, I've decided that I cannot LIVE without a key quantizer that responds to keyboard input.
This would be similar to the existing key quantizer, but would live in the MIDI section. The keyboard displayed in this module is read-only; the keys respond to MIDI data. The module would have a MIDI input channel control similar to the other MIDI receive modules, as well as the existing KeyQuantize controls.
The module would allow -
- Creation of algorithmically controlled arpeggiators
- Interactive force-to-scale for drones and noodles
- Etc. |

I think I understand what you are getting at. Not sure how it would work. Would you trigger this module and it would set the quantization notes to active (sounding) notes. Like, you hold down a chord or something on the keyboard and then push a button to lock those notes into the note quantizer?
I like the note quantizer too, but is gets boring fast. To change keys consider using several quantizers in parallel and run them into a multiplexer module. Then you can pick what key you want by controling the mux. _________________ --Howard

My first thought is that it would act on sounding notes. Since notes can be lcked with the KB hold function, this would not absolutely require a latch mechanism; OTOH, that would be convenient for many applications, so maybe it would also have a Latch input, during which notes would latch or accumulate. |

Well, I think you have a great idea that would make improvisation much easier. I'd vote several times if I could. I guess as administrator, I could rig the electron but I'll not do it.
This is almost as important at the binary up/down counter with asynchronous presets. _________________ --Howard

And let it span more than the flimsy one octave that is on the current key quantizer. So, it would have to quantize to the actual keys pressed 'wherever on the keyboard' and not force them into a scale that repeats on all octaves.
Maybe better, have this as an extra option that can be turned on or off.
Perhaps this would cause problems with the display, but imho its an important musical option I really miss on the current KeyQuant module. |

I've been missing exactly this feature too. Forcing tonal FX and noodles etc. to chords/scales played on the keyboard is very important in making them more useful in live situations.
My vote! |

Also something i would love. Then we can start making Karma-like patches on the G2, but then more....modular _________________ Grtz Wan |
