this is what i did as a fun project last week: a voltage meter module with cable tester. the range is selectable from 0V to 10V or -5V to +5V. the module provides two LEDs indicating the input signal exceeding the modules working range.
to use the spare front panel space i added a cable tester. for this tester the sockets have to be isolated from the front panel (COM).
[for 12V operation R9 and R10 have to be adjusted. this voltage divider sets the reference voltage of 10V for the comparator.]

A couple of questions on the meter itself. Is it a 0-10v range meter, one of your pics shows a 0-30v range meter, also the extra wires going to the meter, is that for illumination?
Thanks in advance

it is 0V>10V / -5V>+5V meter. there is one computer graphic showing 30V, just because i used a picture from the suppliers catalogue to create it.

correct. connector J5 interfaces with the actual meter unit, and the 15V feed the light bulb.
